Depends what you put in them although they are usually high in sugar, carbs mashed up cause spikes far quicker and probably have you hungry a few hours after.. so on reflection probably not... well you did ask!

In the meantime hello and welcome and I'll tag @daisy1 for the welcome post.

Hi @Zenzen1000_ Not as healthy as all the marketing makes them out to be - as Bulkbiker has said the process of breaking down the fibres makes them as good as drinking pure sugar and the spike they cause to your blood glucose is not healthy, it's better to eat the ingredients in their raw form if at all, I gave my smoothie maker away..

I'd imagine you'd have to make up your own low carb versions, as I agree with what has already been said about them being not a very good choice.

Grapefruit smoothie I take is beneficial to my diabetes management and a good source of antioxidants especially Vit C. I also take Acabose 50mg tablet 3x daily which specifically handles blood glucose spikes. Eventually, the blood sugar is stabilised after 2hrs. I recommend it.

@Zenzen1000_ - you could make a smoothie from coconut milk, kale/spinach, a lump of fresh ginger, a drizzle of lemon juice, or try some of these https://jenniferbanz.com/low-carb-smoothies I haven't tried any of them and I have to say that bunging in frozen okra would probably make me heave (a weird gloopy/slimy mess perhaps?). The 'better' ones are the green ones, but as others have said, smoothies aren't as healthy as they are made out to be, especially for diabetics.

Just want to try it out. Sometimes I just dont feel like cooking!! Very lazy but know I need the veggies etc...
Make an omelette.. takes seconds and is food.. drinking your meal isn't very good for you.
Cold meats, cheese all take no time?

Dont see the problem with a smoothie. As with everything, it just depends what’s in it. They shouldn’t be full of garbage and are not what I’d call ideal as a regular meal replacement, but personally I think they can be very convenient to take out on-the-go or if you just need a quick refuelling. Not everyone has access to a kitchen or a microwave all day every day :pompous:

I think we all feel like sometimes I know I do. Nothing wrong with a smoothie sometimes as long as it is nutritious and diabetic friendly

Avocado, banana, peanut butter, flax seeds and milk. Blended together and left overnight in the fridge. Perfect start to the day.;););)
