Hi

Does anyone have any smoothie recipes good for a type 2 diabetic that needs to lose weight? He likes strawberries so looking for a low sugar fruity breakfast recipe but he is allergic to bananas!!

Thanks :)

I would suggest using Blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. The bananas would probably have spiked his BG if he is anything like me!

Instead of making a smoothie, why not tempt him with a plain Greek Yogurt and throw just a few berries in. We do have to be careful with fruit as it all contains sugar. Berries are best, but not too many all at once. Even natural sugar is sugar and will raise blood glucose levels.

Smoothies are processed food.
Processed food is not the healthiest way to eat for diabetics as a rule.
Like the previous poster I'm for putting whole fruit in natural full fat yoghurt and letting saliva teeth and body do the processing. I also go with the Holford diet bloke when he says ... if it ends in berry you can eat quite a lot of it whole or sliced but not whizzed.
Okay he didn't say whizzed I did ... he's posher than me so said the same thing with a more appropriate word.
