Good evening everyone hope you are well

My fasting blood glucose test at the doctor's was 48 my own reading today was 6.6

So am I diabetic at this number

At the moment I am been controlled by losing weight, exercise and healthy eating so not been put on any tablets

Do I need to inform my car insurance company

Will I qualify for free prescriptions with not been on tablets

It is a really scary time as I am so unsure on lots of things

Any help support and advice would be so very much appreciated

Enjoy your evening and weekend

Hi there

So, 48 is just on the boundary of diabetic diagnosis, so yes but usually they would repeat to double check. when was this test and have you been suggested having another to check? Looking at dietary changes is a good idea, low carb is something a lot on the forums do that has helped. What is your current diet like?

Has your doctor given you a diagnosis? They should really be telling you.

No you don't get free prescriptions unless you are prescribed drugs

Hi,

I'm not sure where you live so that limits people's ability to help.

If you are a type 2 not on any drugs I would not think you need to advise your car insurer BUT that may very widely on where you live. One way may be to check with your registration authority. The reason that I think it unlikely as with no medication you won't go too low.
What diet are you currently on? Have you got a meter? If not I suggest you get one.

Feel free to continue asking questions and read around there is a heap of useful information on this site.

Good luck.

As far as I know if you are an unmediated T2 you don’t need to tell your car insurers or DVLA however, for travel insurance, you should but it doesn’t put up the premium too much! If you have a private pension and buy an annuity it does make sense to tell them you have T2 diabetes as you may get a larger monthly pension.

Hi @harryhonda

no one here can diagnose you because you need a medical professional for that.

what has your doc or nurse said about your test results?

Only your gp can tell you.. that’s where you need to go for diagnosis

But if you are concerned it doesn’t hurt to browse the forums and look at diet ideas and start to take them on board even without a diagnosis. Sensible eating never hurts

Good luck

Yes I am having another fasting glucose test at the doctors in May he was going to put me on tablets then decided to try me losing weight, exercise and healthy eating.

So I am cutting out my carbohydrates

Diet was not way bad before but had take aways and not always healthy choices

You enjoy the rest of your weekend

Kindest regards
