@Spiker suggested an Orange Jelly with the addition of a Table spoon of Cocoa powder when mixing.
Sounded good
Looked around and could only find a Black current jelly and Drinking Chocolate ( all sugar free) so I made it and it really was not to bad, nice chocolate fruit taste,
Then decided to try Spikers Orange jelly and Cocoa powder.
Trouble is the Cocoa sort of settles as it sets, and you get this dirty orange colour that once you get through, you strike pure MUD at the bottom of the bowl, and if you enjoy sand I guess its not to bad.
I really think my drinking chocolate looks and tastes better, but ive got to buy another Orange jelly to compare.
Strawberry, and Drinking Chocolate with a dollop of cream its good
Happy trying :wacky:

I missed the middle of this thread, and was so intrigued by mention of Andy's airless fridge that I went back searching for his post as our fridge/freezer is very similar: it;s so full that things are always leaping out at me and spilling all over the floor, much to the delight of my two little dogs. In addition my husband has piles of stuff on the top of it, and quite often when I open the door, I get clonked on the head with the odd packet of sponge fingers or even worse, meringue nests falling on top of me...

And regarding not seeing the back of fridges, my husband took early retirement while I was still working, and took over shopping and cooking. After I retired I was having a bit of a fridge clear out and found a packet of margarine which had expired ten years previously and was no longer recognisable as such, having metamorphed into an alien white waxy looking substance... If I'd ever favoured marge over butter it would have been enough to put me off eating it for life.:eek:

Just wondering why sponge fingers and meringue nests are in your fridge, but, thinking about my kitchen cupboards, maybe there's no room in yours either? :)

Didn't a winner of Great British menu once make elderflower jelly! So gelatine and infusion of elder flowers - probably just finished now.

Could try elderberry later in year. I used to make elderberry wine - wonder what the gi is for elderberries.

Actually they sit on top of it - I think my husband has some secret desire to compete with Tescos, and so a great number of his surplus goodies sit on top of the cupboards and fridge - and then he complains about the food bills...:wideyed:

I used to make elderflower tea, we had several bushes growing at the back of our garden - only trouble was the flower heads were full of little blackfly and I was reluctant to try to shake them out too hard and lose all the pollen in the process - so if you've got any tips?

I make jelly in small pots, great for work, but no cream. When I make the jelly instead of cold water I mix the jelly with a small amount of hot water then add Diet Lemonade to make upto the pint, taste great. I have also used pepsi max and this works. Any sugar free drink can be used,

This may sound disgusting but I've just made a batch of strawberry jelly and sprinkled in linseeds. I sprinkle them over anything with cream anyway so thought I'd try it this way and perhaps they'd absorb the jelly flavour...!

You can add yoghurt to it to make it like milk jelly, just only make it up to 1/2pint then, when it has cooled a bit, add the yoghurt and whisk. Makes it nice and 'fluffy'. You can also have cream with it mmmmmm.......
how about a whole packet of sugar free jelly crystals mixed into a 250ml pot of double cream? left to set for half an hour then devoured the lot! That is the sort of bad influence you LCHF guys have on me.

My view is that you eat food for nutrition, and if it's got nothing in it but junk it's not nutritious and therefore not food. Yes, I know I'm in the minority here, but I threw out my sugar free jelly around 7 years ago when I was trying to get healthier. If I want a dessert I will have berries and cream or just a spoonful of cream on its own.
quite right, I am leaving this jelly porn site and looking for an alcohol one instead.

Hello Jelly Fans on this Forum, I have just read the back of my Hartley's packs and they contain the Aspartame and Acesulfame K, but I don't bother caus it's sugar free. I love jelly and have not had any for a long time, so I better make some tomorrow, to cure my crazing, which might I add, only started after reading all the jelly comments, and interesting ideas and receipes, cocoa into orange, thinking on that one. On the back of a hartley's (blackcurrant) is the method for 'fizzy' jelly, using 1 pack with 150ml hot water, the 450ml od cold diet lemonade then leave to set, must try that one, saw Delia Smith make champagne fizzy jelly, for adults. I love many flavours of jelly, but not over keen on strawberry just not flavourful enough. So if I can find a tin, put some fruit into a bowl, I love Rachel's vanille yoghurt over my jelly, and yes evening snack of a bowl of jelly is tempting, but got none. Have any members heard of using eating apples, in pies and crumbles, no sugar needed. I am going to give this one a try, I love stewed apples with vanilla yoghurt on, bliss. Hope this finds everybody in good spirits, ttfn

but.... but..... there is air in your fridge? i mean.... space where air can be? how do you do that? our fridge is precision stuffed at all times, you have to be ready to catch things when you open the door and if you want to get something out you have to remove 12 items first then carefully put them back in the same order to get them back in, we haven't seen the back of our fridge in years, humpf! i want a fridge with air :( <jealous>
There is a long line of thought that says air should circulate around the contents of the fridge, so that the food can be kept chilled and cool to the right tempreture, please sort out you fridge and have a chuck out if you have not seen the back for more than a week say, you need to be brave and go seeking the contents, ttfn

Wow! wasn't expecting the replies...I had no idea that all those alternatives were avaialble, the 'sugar free' beef gelatine ones here look dubious and have the 'bad' maltodextrin & other sweetners added in. :-(

Think I'll do some 'jelly internet surfing' later and ask a friend to bring them out next time they visit :)
The Hartley's sugar free ones are made with Pork Gelatine as the setting agent, I have not had a problem with this, ttfn

Hello, ask to see the Diabetic nurse(s) in your practise, and they may be able to give you support, and give guidance about how to keep youself in good shape. There are lots of booklets on different aspects of diabetes, that could be helpful. There are diabetic specialist nurses to give more help, and ask the nurse for a gloucose testing monitor, to keep an eye on your blood levels before and after meals, so that you know were you are going with your foods.Being prediabetic is the warning of things that could go wrong, so get the support system up and running, also don't forget about the Diabetic Retinopathy screening painless and necessary, and having your eyes tested as well, and seeing the Podiatry service, to look after you feet, keep well and talk to us all soon, ttfn

Hi scouser

Thanks for the above but having been on here since April I've now got everything in check thanks to this forum.

I won't waste my time with the dn. I'm clever enough to do my own research and have lost faith in the system.

X

So are there any sugar free jellies that don't contain aspartame? I think I could cope with other artificial sweeteners, it's aspartame that really messed up my health.

Zand - ASDA jelly is sweetened with sucralose, and I think Aldi sugar free is too , as from very recently.

I can't tolerate aspartame , but find these just fine

Hi,
I have heard the following that a few people say is correct.
When you open your fridge, all the air pours out of the lower part and hot air enters the space ( Cold air sinks,)
If your fridge is empty, a lot of hot air enters and when you close the door, the fridge has to heat up the air.(Also correct I think, your fridge usually switches on after opening.)

But if your fridge is full, only a small amount of hot air can enter, due to limited space, and as the fridge contents are cold, the fridge cools down much quicker, and you save on power.
Moral :- KEEP YOUR FRIDGE FULL, :D
