So I’ve just done my first low carb shop and...

It’s normally me standing there waiting for her!. Call this my revenge.

It’s very much a learning curve so I will be quicker next time.
It will get much quicker, there’s whole aisles in the supermarket you can skip now ;)

If you like pizza lookup fat head dough. If you ever liked KFC or chicken Kiev, think ground up pork scratchings for the "breadcrumbs".

Seriously delish.

Pork belly with crackling.

Everything you ever thought you knew about dieting is turned on its head. Keep reading the forum and keep an open mind. :)

Hope the yoghurt is full fat. Not those day-glo coloured sugary ones.

Low carbing might well work for her.. check out @Goonergal and @Rachox weight loss on low carb eating..

Thanks @bulkbiker

@Patrick66 your shopping list looks fine, but as the others have said, don’t be scared of fat. In fact embrace it! In the absence of carbs you need it for energy. It helps you feel fuller for longer, so you won’t need to snack and boy does it make food taste so much better!

Both @Rachox and I have some great before and after pics which might be good motivation for your partner. I’ve always struggled with my weight and tried many other diets/ways of eating (prefer that term as it’s for life) before and they didn’t work. Keto has been a revelation and has brought so many other health benefits too.

Oops I just realized I missed quite a few posts on this thread! Sorry.

I tend to be impatient so can actually identify with getting restless while someone stands there reading the "fine print." But I read labels very carefully since dx.

Reading labels becomes second nature and as you move toward a whole food diet (meals cooked from scratch using fresh ingredients) the number of labels to read lessens. Shopping trips also become less time consuming because there are whole aisles that you can miss out should you choose to. When I shop (granted, it's not often) you can usually find me in the meat aisle or the cheese and butter aisle or the gardening aisle!

Thank you. I will certainly look that up.

I am sure it will take me a few attempts to get things settled in my head about what to avoid. And we do shop in different places so I’ll be checking everything new

Did I do okay ?

Looks good. See if you can get one of these, a spralizator or something like that. I've got a hand held one like this, good for courgette. Just in case you fancy something that looks like spaghetti. There are more expensive ones with suckers to keep them on the work surface and handles to turn to produce the "spaghetti". spiral.jpg

Looks interesting. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sounds just like me, I did my first shop this week and my Hubby phoned to see where I was as he was worried.. . I'd been 2 hours haha. I said do you realise how long it takes to read every label lol. He loved the homemade dinner last night, homemade mozzarella middle meatballs with broccoli and cauliflower cheese bake. Neither of us could finish it as it was so filling..and not a potato in sight. Good luck.

BTW IMO you did good, including the low-fat mince if that's what you like. I try to do low carb but I'm very much on the fence about high fat.
Exactly not everyone here wants or likes high fat everything. I don't not like full fat dairy ..except cheese.. or red meat so I eat a lot of olives, avocados, eggs, mayo and some nuts for my fats

Yes it’s all a learning curve isn’t it ?.

Will you please post a recipe for your meatballs? I found one online but it's like mini meatloaf, with breadcrumbs.
