Had my 28 week growth scan today and consultant appointment and he said my diabetes control is fantastic!! Very tight and perfect HB1AC of 6! My little one is growing bang on the 50th penctile with everything as it should be!! Been so worried for months I was doing well enough but feel happy now :) xx

So very happy for you ! Great going good luck..be positive and help others around here :)

Hey lolli ,

This is fantastic news , well done to you , what a brilliant hba1c , I know how worried you have been from previous posts , so happy for you and baby that all is going as it should. xx

Excellent news! Well done for working so hard (and boy, do we all know how much work it is!)

It's interesting your baby was bang on the 50th centile - mine is too :) I'm hoping that means baby is growing normally and won't be too big at birth. Let's hope our babies continue to grow at a normal rate :)

Can I ask if your consultant said anything about induction?

Thanks! Means all this hard work is worth it in the end! Well all they have said so far is that I will be induced on the day I turn 38 weeks. I was thinking I will ask nearer the time exactly what's involved. Still don't really understand the whole induction thing! What about you?x

My consultant said I'd be induced at 38 weeks, but may be a few days over that - so between 38 and 39 weeks.Id rather go into labour naturally though.

For induction they normally get you in to hospital the day before, then give you a pessary to soften the cervix. Sometimes that can start labour by itself, but if it doesn't they usually put a drip up the following day with a synthetic hormone in which will start off contractions.

I absolutely understand why they prefer to induce us, but ideally I want to go into labour naturally because I think that way your body is ready and labour is usually easier.

Hi ladies,
I'm currently in hospital, climbing the walls, waiting for the next stage of being induced. I came in on Friday at exactly 38 weeks. The process in my hospital is as follows:
1. On Monday before admission saw community midwife for a stretch and sweep
2. Friday came into hospital and propess pessary put in. This is to ripen the cervix and possibly start labour. Last time I was hypersensitive and it was taken out but this time it stayed in for 24 hours. Got tightenings and some pain.
3. Pessary taken out after 24 hours. Examination done to see if would be possible to break waters. If not a stronger prostaglandin pessary would have been put in however midwife said cervix was more favourable and would be able to break waters.
4. Which is what I am waiting for now (since Saturday evening). I need to go to central delivery suite to have waters broken but even though I was top of the queue I keep getting bumped by emergency admissions.
5. When I eventually go up they will break my waters then give 2 hours to see if go into labour. If not I will then be put on the intravenous oxytocin drip (u had this last time).

If I keep my blood sugars under 6 I can keep managing my own blood sugars otherwise they will want to put me on sliding scale. Not easy with hospital food.

Really hope I get the call up to the delivery suite soon as is driving me nuts waiting around and can't go home as might lose my place in the queue and they need to monitor every 4 hours.

Good luck Hels!! I hope they get you along to labour ward soon and it goes well, please let us know how you get on.
X

Ooh, good luck, Hels! I hope it won't be too long until you're holding your baby in your arms.

Best wishes for an easy birth for you and baby :)

Eventually got summoned to the delivery suite at 11pm last night. Little boy born at 8am this morning. Progressed well without the drip until the last few hours then had the drip. Managed to keep blood sugars in the 5s throughout so avoided sliding scale.
Absolutely shattered now!
