I am 32 years old. Only had type 1 diabetes a year, but believe me I have done enough reading about it to know what it is.

Which is why it narks me off to be sat opposite my boss everyday, who thinks he knows so much more about it. Asks what my readings are, and because we sit at our desks to eat (this is every day) continuously involves the office in a debate on what I should and shouldn't be eating, that diet can control it. Telling them I am gonna die before I'm 40 and blah blah.. Draws attention to me everytime I need to eat. I wouldn't care, I am 6 foot and 11 stone... Slim lad.

He's one of these that are never wrong.
A while back I stopped eating and therefore found no need to inject but ended up in hospital with DKA.

Starting to not be able to bear work.

There's 2 ways of looking at this, either your boss cares deeply about you and is genuinely concerned about your welfare or he is being an interfering so and so.

Based on either point of view a quiet word is the only way to find out and let him know how you feel, otherwise from the way i've interpreted how this is making your feel it is going to wind you up more and this isn't going to do you any good at all as you've already suffered enough and unless your rich enough to leave work or lucky enough to get another job you need to tackle this. Do you have someone in HR you can talk to ?

Please don't stop eating or taking your insulin this isn't going to do you any good at all..

Have you considered eating your lunch outside of the office, so that you can get some peace and quiet from your well intentioned/interfering boss?

Concern would be fine if it was genuine, but as your boss is involving the whole office on your eating habits and telling them that you will die before your 40 this to me is a form of bullying and harassment, if there's anyone further up the management chain that your boss is accountable to then I would make a complaint or take things up with your trade union if a member, failing that tell this person how you feel and if they don't back off seek legal advice, this sort of behaviour is bang out of order IMHO and needs sorted, you don't go to work to be bullied and humiliated:mad:

Hey Baz you need to learn sooner rather than later - that there are a zillion peeps out there who know everything there is to know about everything ... there is NO point getting into it with then, they only want to be right!
Sadly there is no science behind their verbal sqitts (is only I could spell diarrhoea!) take no notice - and for peace of mind, don't even engage
Best if when your boss started you sang a silly nursery rhyme in your head till he'd finished

I can understand that it's difficult to speak up for fear of making your working life any more uncomfortable than it already is...but unless your boss is an expert at diabetes...which he clearly isn't...having stated that you'll be dead by the age of 40...which simply isn't true...there are many people on this site who've had diabetes for 40/50 years plus...then you really must find the courage to speak up and ask him to stop...perhaps a quiet word in his ear before it becomes an angry outburst later down the line.
Good luck whatever you decide...but please don't take it to heart...you will meet plenty of these self taught clueless numpties on your diabetic journey...most you can deal with but there will always be the odd one who gets under your skin.

Hi,

Why not log all his ill informed comments & hand em over to HR...? It could be construed as "harassment?" If he told you your "gonna die before your 40." On the basis he's not your health care professional. It could be seen as a veiled threat...

I know it's hard but you just need to stand up to this. Some years ago I worked for a company and one of the directors said to me in the canteen in front of the other staff that he found it offensive that I injected (discreetly with a pen). I stood up and asked the 6 or so colleagues in the room if they felt the same to which the answer was no, they found his smoking (pre banned days) in the canteen far more objectionable. He left with his tail between his legs.

Chin up.

A few years ago. In a previous job. I was gobsmacked when I was called in by HR & senior managment and accused of covert filming with a "spy pen" by my boss. They actually didn't know how to handle this grievance..
I did. I produced the "spy pen" revealing the contents as Novorapid..
They backed off big time & in their dissbelief in the position they were put, encouraged me to put in a counter claim.
