NHS pay-rise demo organiser fined £10,000 in Manchester - 7 March 2021

After being tested to the limit by the coronavirus pandemic for almost twelve months, health leaders say staff are 'exhausted and distressed' and deserve better.

Karen Reissmann, a mental health worker in the NHS and Unison rep, ... announced a 'socially distanced and fully risk assessed' protest at midday on Sunday in Manchester city centre

Cones had been laid out in front of her for fellow protesters to maintain a safe distance.

It remains illegal to meet others from outside your household for recreational or social purposes.

"Everybody here is that safe distance, we're outside, but here's the police so I'll get back to you in a minute."

... Karen Reissmann was being issued with the maximum £10,000 fine for organising the protest.

How does that compare to "Socially Distanced Drinks!" in the garden at 10 Downing Street on 20 May 2020?

“Hi all, after what has been an incredibly busy period we thought it would be nice to make the most of the lovely weather and have some socially distanced drinks in the No 10 garden this evening. Please join us from 6pm and bring your own booze!”

Reminder: 10 Downing Street is the location where the people who devised and issued the rules live and work.

This is laughable...

Edit: I guess an online comment: Sean O'Brien said: "Underpaid public service workers arrest and fine underpaid public service worker for protesting about public service workers being underpaid... What a time to be alive."

When Boris was editor of The Spectator he was "party, party, party", according to Sonia Purnell, who was a close colleague for a time and has written a biography of Boris.

Does "party, party, party" sound familiar? She claimed he was determined to go ahead with an office party the evening of the London 7/7 terrorist attacks, but it took other people to prevent it.

Here's Sonia Purnell saying it (from 11:37)
