Hi all! I am a newly diagnosed diabetic (28th Feb) and I’m 20yrs old! I was admitted to hospital with DKA and BS readings of 23+ and Ketones of 4ish!

I was struggling with my feet before being diagnosed, they would go really hot, sore, sleepless nights uncomfortable everything linking to Neuropathy. I get some relief by putting my feet in cold water! But I can’t keep doing that for the rest of my life!!

Since being diagnosed and on insulin for around 2months now my feet are still not showing much improvement! I’ve constantly spoke to my DSN, also saw my consultant for the first time a few weeks ago and also been to my GP and they have all said the same! “Due to my sugars being so high for a long period of time that they have messed with my nerves but it’s a case of riding through the pain and getting my sugars down, apparently it can take up to 3months for this to happen”

My GP prescribed me some Amitryptiline to take at night to help me sleep! But only been taking it for a few days!

Has anyone else suffered similar cases? And got any advice?

Thanks!

When blood sugars are running high at night you will tend to feel hot. It seems to effect the body's ability to stabilise it's temperature. As you bring your blood sugars down to more normal levels it will improve.
Be patient, it can take a while & some hard work to get things under control, but you will feel better.

Hello @Toppo97 welcome to the forum :)

I can’t speak from experience on this however others will respond to advise, my best advice is to try and keep your levels as steady as possible so try to avoid swinging high and low - also get a copy of ‘think like a pancreas’ it’s helps to become as knowledgable as possible and this book is a good tool to have, best wishes J

As a newly diagnosed T1 you Can't have been very high for too long or you would be dead! So chances are the can be improved by keeping your numbers as stable as possible. I think aiming below 8 is a Bernstein figure (I haven't read his stuff but he reversed neuropathy apparently).
