20g a day for me - lost 25.5Kg and got my HbA1c down from 107 to 40 since November

In answer to @Alapp1212 - I eat loads of green vegetables (where most of my carbs come from), eggs, meat, cheese and generally healthy unprocessed food. In fact, pretty much everything except bread, rice, potatoes, root vegetables, pasta and cereals :)

As far as brain function is concerned, I feel sharper than ever, fitter than ever and more alert than ever and haven't eaten 90g of carbs a day in months!

Interesting thread! I'd assumed that most people here were very low carb, 20-30g a day, because that's what most people who asked me were telling me to eat! i didn't realise so many were eating quite a few more. Can I ask why you're eating more? I'm wondering if I ought to increase my carbs a bit as I'm feeling something is not right with my diet, but I know I can't have bread, rice or pasta.

Your brain needs a certain amount of glucose broken down from the food it eats....

We are all different and some can do 20g a day with fat. Some more.. But just like our blood readings and reactions which are individual to us - so is brain functioning.
I.e i'm not a good exame because I mainly just eat one meal a day... However the majority of people couldn't do this...
One size does not fit all.
So as much as we say lower carbs... Your GP CANNOT say 90g minimum as again we are just examples of how wrong he is because one size does not fit all.
You may wish to go to 90g, then lower it gradually or you may eish to go straight to a maximum of say 50g.

What ever you do is down to your own individual lifestyle and also food budget...

No one is the same as you... Only you can decide....

Thank you Donnellysdogs for putting that into prospective. Apparently I will be eating a lot of green vegetables

Sounds about right!! I have lots of salads....too, even during the winter.

Lots of individual ways to manage but the main thing is that liwering carbs can give symptoms of "carb flu"... And to eat enough foods to stave off those carb cravings that some folk seem to get.

Let us know how you get on... And what you decide upon.

(Please don't now say you are a marathon runner or an Everest mountain climber!!)

Typically sub 40g per day, carb load once a week with 250g carbs. Daily eat 225-250g protein.

Type 1 so carb and protein count.

40 carbs a day with one day a week eating 250 carbs? Why that large amount? Why so much protein. I eat about 50-90g a day

for me it is a little strange. Some weeks I will do about 150g and then I will go on a blow out for a few weeks and do 300+g. Makes no difference to my numbers except I lose a few pounds in the former weeks and gain a few in the latter weeks giving my weight range of 12st3 to 12st8

Weight training - it's effectively a glycogen reload on a weekend on the one big day.

At the moment, I'm not actually counting carbs. I try to have a minimal carb breakfast and lunch, then have a "normal" evening meal where I will have a small portion of Mrs P's carbs. Evening time, a couple of crackers and cheese.
Lentils, chick peas and other pulses are in my diet and contribute to the carb load, as do vegetables and a piece of fruit somewhere in the day.
I haven't yet kicked the carrot habit.

The glucose monitor is in the post - that may change things once I can measure the impact of meals on my BG.
