Hi,

After now not eating chocolate for almost two weeks now I’ve decided I probably need to exercise. I’ve never ever done any in my life so wouldn’t know where to start. I really need to do chair exercise as I’m currently not able to walk very far, I have a very painful right foot. I’ve downloaded an app but after putting details in it wants payment, I’m not paying for it. Any ideas please?

Hi,

After now not eating chocolate for almost two weeks now I’ve decided I probably need to exercise. I’ve never ever done any in my life so wouldn’t know where to start. If you can access YouTube and use the search for chair sitting exercises.
There are quite a few, and you don't have to pay.
Never pay for something that is usually a con!
My usual exercise is walking, and that is it.
As much as you can, if possible.

I do a gentle exercise class at my local community center, it's seated, but you can stand if you choose as well for the cardio. Check into local classes.

Is there a local community tv channel? We have one here that has senior exercise for all levels.

As mentioned You Tube has lots of videos but try your local library for DVD or cd options.

Congratulations on ditching the chocolate! It's not easy.

Have a look on the Move it or Lose it channel on YouTube.

The channel is mainly targetting folks with a few miles on the clock, but it is perfect for those looking to move a bit more and may be coming from a low starting point.

We used to have a lady in our local Diabetes UK who was a qualified Move It or Lose It trainer, and she ran some sessions for the group, who were of mixed abilities. Virtually all the exercises could be done sitting, but some could be done standing beside a chair, for support.

Local, physical session would likely attract a fee, but YouTube is free.

Well done you, Sarah, for doing something, and sticking with it. Hopefully you'll start to feel the benefits soon.

Broadly speaking you can do anything that forces your muscles to work. Resistance training is always a good one. The use of Light weights can be used repetitively for arm strength and pecs. It’s the repetitiveness that forces your muscles to work. Keep your weights light, say 5 lbs.
As for your legs, keeping your legs straight, while sitting and gently lifting them will work your core and your thighs. The main thing is to be careful and start gently and build up. Listen to your body when exercising. Those are just two simple exercises that don’t require much physical movement, just the repetitive action will work your body. Any gym would be happy to advise. These exercises can be done at home.

It’s great that you are exercising. Well done,

Worth searching for Chair Yoga.

Can’t help with the exercise but just wanted to say well done on going the 2 weeks without chocolate- you’re doing so well :)
