hello, i am a 61 yom and just was told today my a1c is 9! dr advised insulin shots and i want to try getting my weight down first. i don't know where to start! my wife asked him how many carbs a day i should have and he said 15, that's all i know. i do not have insurance, i have been to dietitians in the past but none have been really helpful, and cant really afford to keep seeing them. is there some kind of app that would be helpful for me to formulate some sort of eating plan, so i can total my grams of protein, fat carbs and calories etc, so i can get this weight off. i am 184 and prob should be 165, i am 5'8". i had a heart attack 5 years ago and had a stent an i am on metformin. i just had my script refilled as i was out for about 2 months. i know it sounds like i dont take care of myself and i propably should have taken better care. i do really try, my wife buys good food, but it seems i am addicted to carbs, and i let myself get back into a pop routine. but i came clean, and i need help....thank you

If you are a type 2 diabetic with no other interesting additions, then eating a low carb diet should make a major impact
on blood glucose levels.
My Hba1c was 91 at diagnosis, but down to the top end of normal, 41 at 6 months.
Just cutting down the carbs, the starches and sugars, did the trick. I lost weight without even trying.
I started off by reducing down to 50 gm of carbs a day - which is what a lot of people find effective - perhaps you misheard the doctor.
If you have been having a lot of carbs it will be best and safest to reduce down gradually, cutting out or replacing with lower carb options to lower levels gently.

It might seem a bit daunting at first but cut the carbs that are much easier to cut out. Bread, Pasta, Rice for example. Then just concentrate on eating Meat, fish, dairy, nuts if you can. It is really and learning game as to what your body will tolerate. Green veg, salad are good to add. Eggs. I have to be in an egg mood but there are plenty of meals you can make with eggs and add eggs too a meal. I am on Twitter and there are some very good Keto websites. Once you start and the weight comes off you will be amazed. Best of Luck.

I did a low carb diet over the Summer, restricted to 50g. But after eight weeks I started to become hypothyroid and my GP told me to stop the diet. I am swimming and have increased my step count. I still watch the carbs and have cut down on sugary snacks. Newly diagnosed with type 2 and waiting for my next blood test to see if my blood sugar has decreased from 52.

* I have Hashimotos thyroiditis having been diagnosed over 30 years ago...

Hi Resurgam, what do you mean by "simple failure"? I will look into the carbs , need to learn way more about it all. Might try the low carb diet again and see what happens
