Hi
I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in December 2012. I am just getting to grips with medication - Gliclazide 80mg twice a day for past week having switched from Metformin (didn't agree with me). However, I have been suffering with terrible soreness/burning in my pectoral muscles - radiating into my armpits with no redness or rash visible or lumps. Could this be attributed to any sort of neuropathy? Any comments/advice would be much appreciated.

Are you by any chance taking statins?

Hi

I was diagnosed on Jan 15th 2013 been taking Metformin ever since but I identify with what you say. Over the last week I have had a pain in the chest (right hand side) which is radiating under the arm and into the back. Also have had /ache in the side of neck as I have had yet another chest infection thought it might be pleurisy but gp said muscle pain as she handed me the 4th lot of antibiotics I have had since just before Xmas.
I was wondering too if anything to do with Diabetes-I am type 2. Also last night I had the most terrible irritaton in my scalp.Have suffered for a while with irritated scalp so now seems related to Diabetes.

Someone at work said that Diabetes was nothing-well I wish they had it as then some people might have more sympathy!!Has anyone else  encountered this type of attitude?

Diabetes does prolong the healing process and I'm convinced it leaves us more prone to infections and viruses. Also my GP insists that a minimum of a 7 day course of antibiotics is needed to fight bugs in those of us with diabetes and he lets me keep a course of 21 cefalexin for when the telltale green phlegm appears.
Have you tried Polytar+ for scalp or if that cant be located, Capasal is just as good. My GP prescribes both and saves me a few pounds by doing so

I wish I could have words with that ar*e-hole at your work..grrrrr!!! It would be more of a confrontation than mere words and I would leve them in absolutely no doubt as to how serious it is

Hi phobbs72,
I'm really showing my ignorance here because...I've never heard of neuropathy.
Health issues relating to Diabetes were explained to me by my doctor's practice nurse and the podiatrist, but no mention of "neuropathy".
I'm unable to offer an educated reply, but after Googling the word, and from all that was explained to me, it certainly looks like your symptoms are pointing to neuropathy.
I'll be interested in reading further replies.
I hope you receive the definitive answer, and I too, wish you well.

Hello maria g,

Where do these people get their ideas from? I'm stunned by that comment.

I've never come across an attitude like that myself however, having mentioned that, I've stopped telling people I've diabetes as their eyes sort of glaze over if I mention it. They are in the minority though, but it's them who tend to come to mind whenever this sort of thing is mentioned.

Ignore your work colleague, just pity her/him for their ignorance. Your'e way over, and above them.

weewillie.

Thank you for your advice and comments about attitudes towards Diabetes. They don't realise the problems we have-Ifeel that for the last 12-18 months I have had nothing but poor health. Mind I suppose the media doesn't help when they bang on about it being linked to obesity, etc etc!!!

Best wishes to you all-we are all in it together! :D
