I'm sure I will eventually not need to ask so many questions but at the moment I have become obsessed with my diet and Blood Sugar levels....so to my question..... this morning I woke with quite a headache and stomach ache it was in my lower stomach and not something I have noticed before, I was also sweating quite a lot although I didn't feel hot, I very often wake up sweating and don't know why , I have read after searching on here about people sweating and headaches cause their sugar is low but checking mine it was 10.9...... a week ago it was 17 so with a change of medication and very low carbs it is reducing every day, any ideas what is causing this and how to combat it, or is it more likely to be unrelated

Might be carb flu, which apparently is common but shortlived as carbs and BS levels are reduced rapidly. Of course we're not immune to ordinary colds and tummy upsets so don't rule that out.

Your body is reacting to low carb and it could be carb flu, but it also could be a bit of cold turkey from lack of carbs. If you up your full fats and drink plenty of water, this might ease it.
Or a touch of man flu! The quite big drop, could be causing fluctuating blood glucose levels and that is symptomatic of what you describe. Or it could be a common cold!
But it definitely is, that your levels are coming down.
Well done for that!

Good on your numbers, keep that going,
drinking water I find helps after a sweaty session... last sunday night I could of rung my nightshirt out....

I get hot flushes now and then, and occasionally as described above, but have never related them to diabetes. Usually after eating or in the middle of the night.

Yes, agree not too sure if it is DB related, started to log when I have them.... the dinner did involve pasta, which once a blue moon... twice cooked P and the numbers were not too bad...

My numbers are coming down quite quickly or are they quickly ? maybe it's normal to go from 17 fasting a week and a half ago to 9.6 this morning, after lunch on Oct 28th when the DN checked it whilst showing me how to use the meter it was 21....after lunch today it was 7.1, I'm avoiding all obvious carbs and have had this stomach ache since Thursday night, it's my lower stomach and just uncomfortable, if it continues I will visit the doc, in all honesty it's doesn't seem so bad today so at the moment I am going with ' carb flu '. I really do appreciate all the help I am getting, without your responses I'd be stressing my brains out :)

7.1 way to go!!! You may be higher in the morning due to what is termed "dawn phenomenon".The liver is a clever little gizmo and dumps glucose into the system to get you up and around first thing. Many will test their morning BG on waking, before feet hit the floor to try and get a more accurate picture. If you leave it 20 mins usually a liver dump is in progress.Quite a remarkable thing the human liver.

Yes, my morning BG is usually a bit high. I get sweats all the time too - doesn't seem to be any pattern though. Your stomach is no doubt just reacting to a a change in diet. :)

Hi there, are you taking Metformin by any chance? That medication is notorious for causing discomfort in the gut. It can cause pain through inflammation.

I did start taking Metformin but suffered terribly from an upset stomach, so the doc changed me to the slow release Metformin which has been much better although maybe having the opposite effect if you get my drift, as my BS level was rising (my own fault as I had no symptoms and I didn't take my diet seriously ) the DN upped the dose from 750 mg to 1000, she also put me on Onglyza 5mg, and gave me a meter to start testing my blood, I now watch what I eat and my levels are reducing all the time, but as I have dramatically cut the carbs from my diet I have developed this persistant lower stomach ache, which from the infomation I have gathered from this forum could be the cause, it's not as bad today I have started taking a fibre product which may have helped, I see the DN on the 17th so I can discuss with her if it's my diet or the tablets or something totally different, hopefully by then I'll be well on the way to getting my sugar levels into the normal range and this uncomfortable stomach will be gone, I'm so grateful for the help and support on here as it has been a worrying couple of weeks for me

Brilliant results so far @chefdee. Well done. I did have some unusual symptoms during my first 2 weeks on LCHF. I wouldn't describe it as carb flu, but yes I do remember being quite sweaty and having a few nights disturbed sleep. Stick with it, it gets better.

+1

Wot he said. Absolutely. The thing is, your body is used to running under certain conditions. You have now changed those conditions and it will take a while for it to adapt.

But it will adapt ( you mention it's less bad each day right?) so I think you are on the right track. Numbers are great, stick with it.
