Soup maker

I'm thinking about buying a soup maker (a nice batch of lovely soup in 30 minutes!)
Does anyone have one, and more importantly USE it? (we have cupbaords full of gadgets that seemed like a great idea at the time but rarely see the light of day now)

Personally I wouldn't bother. A pressure cooker is a far more versatile piece of kitchen equipment and does great for soups. A little hand "thingy" for blending it and you're done!

I make lovely soups that way :)

I use a pressure cooker too for veggy type soups but just use a pan for soups like mushroom (husbands favourite ) I wouldnt spend money on a soup maker ,rather buy a nice bottle of wine !!!

I think the money might see better use invested in a hand blender/stick blender thingy. Just throw everything in a pan, simmer, and then hand blend till it's the texture you want.

Don't let me put you off - they look like useful gadgets - but they have a fairly limited capacity, don't they? I like making enough for about 6 portions; eat 2, fridge 2, freeze 2.

I make mine in a Kuhn Rikon tall saucepan which is ideal for soup and blitz with a hand blender and I make enough to freeze

I've got a soup maker and I LOVE IT! It took a bit of work getting the hang of it but now I use it at least once a week. No more chucking out veg, and now I always know what's in my soup. Sometimes i put all the ingredients in before I go to work and switch it on when I get home, by the time I take off my coat and get changed its just about ready. Leek, green pepper and potato or cauliflower is very nice. You can also use up those very small bits in bags of frozen veg. Buy one - I'm sure you'll love it .

I love homemade soup,so tasty....makes a great meal as well, I like it for lunch....:)
Yes agree all left over veg can be used and is very tasty and freezing is just a bonus ,,,,,,,:)

It a stick hand blender for me and a large pot .....

Putting in before work and cooked when home sounds like a slow cooker with a fancy name? Would that not be more versatile... disclaimer that l am a non cook who can make yummy tomato soup and now married to my cook so my views on cooking are to be taken lightly boiled.

I have a soup maker, the Cuisinart one and I love it!.....(probably because it doesn't involve lots of pots to wash afterwards) It sits on the worksurface and is used regularly. I can make enough soup for at least four or five decent bowlfuls. It's also useful for dips, dressings, drinks and desserts. :)
