Hi all. May sound a silly question but my daughter and I are going to a spa break for a couple of days to chill out. I know to avoid steam rooms and sauna as they make me feel overheated and dizzy. But as a T2 I don't have to avoid really warm pool or jacuzzi do I?
Am on 4mg Glimperide per day and if not careful I get almost hypo levels on it but intend to take my meter and " emergency supplies" just incase!
Thanks guys.

Other members have reported that they have been refused spa facilities because of their diabetes. It is good practice for the spa to have a pamphlet explaining why some conditions are excluded from some of their facilities. Massage is often excluded for diabetics because of the possibility of poor circulation/peripheral neuropathy/high blood pressure. If you booked via the internet/telephone they should really ask. They should do a health check when you arrive too.
Phone ahead and ask, then you will know for sure. You don't want to waste two days and only end up with a manicure and facial.

Anything healthy!
In the next couple of months I intend to book a facial and some form of massage, I will not be telling them I'm diabetic. I can decide for myself and don't want anyone telling me no when they know nothing about me. I've had tattoos since being diabetic and each time time I've not said I'm diabetic and everything has been fine.

I guess it would depend on whether someone's diabetes caused them any problems though.
So each would have to apply common sense to their own circumstances.

Having said that I have been to spas, used all the facilities., and had no problems.

Hear hear. Some of us have been left to our own devices by our GPs, which is fine and I'm having a great time with the help of the forum. But in that case we have the right to decide what we can eat, do (have a spa treatment or massage) and where we can go (travel insurance & other restrictions).
*edit* I'll add type 2 to the list on my travel insurance but I don't expect any restrictions or increased premium. If there is, I'll shop around.

Thanks all for yr advice, I think I just will have to use my common sense. The only daughter has pre- booked is an aromatherapy neck, shoulders, and back massage and have had those before, no probs. I have always avoided extreme heat as even before diabetes I didn't enjoy it.
I suppose best thing is to go with the flow and if need be I will just chill while my daughter plays the mermaid! Lol !
I wouldn't want to cancel and disappoint her as it was a surprise from her and it's all paid for!
