Well, three weeks exactly from starting my Atkins diet and I had my first weigh in today. I am 13 lbs lighter today than i was three weeks ago. AMAZING!!! Especially as I haven't been so strict with the diet -(foundation stage) I still dont ever really feel hungry or deprived of good food. I've regularly had the odd bit of fruit- eg. just 5-6 slices of banana or a few raspberries and a tablespoon or two of bought ice cream. But I've religiously checked carb contents of products and if its more thn 5 gms I put things back on the supermarket shelves. I've upped my veg intake by may be 5 X and had NO potatoe, pasta, bread or flour products, rice or sugar/sweet stuff in 3 weeks. I've been religiously checking out new veg based recipes to get as much variety as possible so i dont get bored. And I've discovered the joy of mascapone and proscuitio both very low carb and I frequently have a good breakfast bacon, eggs, mushrooms- in short the works. I felt better within 3 days of starting and at three weeks now I have LOADS more energy. It's making me wonder if I'd had chronic fatique for the last two years.. The future's looking bright. ...Sorry if it sounds like I'm bragging. I'm not. I'm just happy. I've never been able to lose weight before and now I've almost lost a stone in three weeks with very little stress. Wow. Thank you for all the tips and advice people on this site have given me. It's a great resource for the good, so keep it up and keep sharing low carb recipes. (...I'm still collecting!)
Thanks!

Wow,what a result Sparkles!!!! Just read your post out to my hubby, and he was astounded and envious-and (hopefully) more willing to give up a few of the carbs that he eats..

Had a lovely gooseberry fool today...just gooseberries (from garden) and greek yogurt and it was fantastic-although I must admit I prefer the one made with double cream!!!!!

The low carb recipes here are fantastic aren't they (?) and so genuinely good because they come recommended by all of us!!

Thanks DD! yes the recipes are terrific... but am I greedy... I just want more! We only got about 2 dozen gooseberries and they are all gone now. :( but the black and red currents are looking just fine... not long now.

Gosh, perhaps I ought to become a welsh gooseberry farmer...I picked half of the gooseberries on one plant today-we have 3-and they came to a 1lb and a 1/2..after being topped and tailed. There's a chap from the rhonda valley (can't remember his name) that does a stint on Jeremy Vine on radio 2 - perhaps I ought to contend for his place!!!!! Seriously thinking that Wales could be a good contender for supplying strawberries and gooseberries as well as good beef and lamb!!!

Well done, Sparkles! :D It sounds to me as if you've got your Atkins balance pretty well right for the moment, and there's no reason why you shouldn't continue as you are with it. Your weight loss will slow, however, so don't get faint hearted. But if you're feeling so good, that will be an incentive in itself. I recognise that feeling - part of it is being in control!

Yes, I’m thinking I’ll just keep going as I have been doing because I’m not suffering and feel at ease with it and its working. You are right… (strangely so for me…) this is probably the first time in my life I’ve ever felt in control of food. It generally controls me… Well, actually I am still spending an awful lot of time thinking about food, lol, its just that I’m thinking about it in terms let me say… of an imaginary larder, where the contents are restricted in that those things I’m not allowed are not in it… But I still have a very full larder as there are loads of things left there and I’m constantly on the look out for new and exciting things to buy and try… things Ive never had before. ...Or new ways of cooking things ....or new combinations… its endless. Thanks for the slowing down of weight loss tip off… OK I’m prepared. The biggest and bestest thing is the improvement in my health and well being and in my diabetic BG control. Weight loss in my case is a value added extra and a very pleasant surprise. Yep… I’d go for ‘confidence booster’ too because I finally feel I’ve cracked this diet thing that I could never do before. In my case this is definately thanks to Low carb. (and not low fat. )
….If only I had understood it was the carbohydrates that were controlling me all this time.
Sparkles.
