What do most of you consider too high bs 2 hours after a meal. Is it ok to spike at, say 10, as long as you are under 8.5 or less within two hours. I try and test 1 hour and 2 hours after a meal to try and catch a spike. I was diagnosed in June of this year and am still learning.

me myself dont like to be more than 8mmol 2 hrs after and bk to under 6mmol 4hrs later,
its a personal choice but the lower the better :D welcome to the forum btw

Hi Beff.

Basically I don't want to spike at all if I can help it. I certainly try to keep the levels as even as possible most times. If there is a spike then I would try to keep it below 7 if at all possible. As Totsy says, the lower the numbers the better.

I want to know how to keep spikes under 7. I am pre diabetic, glucose test said so, but one slice of bread can send me as high as 9. Ok I do go back down to <6 after two hours but if the highs are doing damage may have to drop the odd slice of wholemeal. :( Just glad spuds don't have the same effect :D

You have given yourself the answer
If it spikes you, either don't have it or just have a tiny bit or lower GI..
Wholemeal bread isn't actually much better than white from the GI pont of view and that will affec spikes.
