Hi I was diagnosed at the start of the month at bs level 25 and put on Metformin 500 3 times a day and trulicity once a week. I was dropping regularly but now am stuck between 8 and 10. I have cataracts and am going blind. The left eye is cloudy and the right eye sees five of things . Very pretty but not great for work. I was about to get surgery when the diabetes diagnosis derailed the whole thing for a second time. High blood pressure derailed it first. I need to hit six to get at least one eye fixed. If I eat at all it goes up and 8 .0 is still my lowest. Anyone got any ideas. I am really afraid of never getting my eyes fixed. I don't want to go to insulin as it just seems like a disaster waiting to happen

Your levels have dropped from 25 to 8 in just a few weeks, I would consider that to be amazing progress, although your concerns about your eyesight are completely understandable.
I have no idea what your diet is like at the moment but if I were in your shoes and my eyesight was at risk , I would cut out as many carbs as possible. I would even consider going totally carnivorous, if you don't put the carbs in the glucose can't get into your blood. I would also try intermittent fasting to try and clear as much stored glucose from my body as possible.
But if everything were to fail to get my levels to where they need to be then I would welcome insulin with open arms. It's not the demon everyone seems to think and you don't necessarily have to be on it forever, just long enough to get to a point where your eyesight can be fixed.

Hi @AngelSix60008
Even if your daily Blood Glucose levels are now OK it will still take time for any improvement in diabetic symptoms.
Insulin in the short -term in order to be able to have other medical procedures, is not something to be dreaded. However needing insulin injections every day of your life probably doesn't appeal to you (nor to me), especially since in most cases it can be easily avoided by a low carb way of eating.

I was on Metformin for years and followed a low-carb diet too. Metformin really gave me stomach issues though, so much so, I was excluded from Jury service because of it.

I did not want to go on insulin at first, but despite ultra-low carb diet and plenty of exercise, it was really hard keeping BSG down as I believe my time on oral meds was now over. I was put on insulin which gave me more freedom when it comes to eating and it's really not bad at all and for me, more manageable.

My college roommate was diabetic and I spent years with too high, too low, emergency room visits, and the dreaded calls to her parents the last one " your child is in a coma come quickly" . I don't know if I am quite up to it being me. My teaching partner for the last 9 years is diabetic and it has been better but those calls to family when the person is unreasonable and obviously in trouble ...I don't have a support system to get help like that. I can't afford crisises like those. I know intellectually that there must be people who live and work with it but they aren't in my life and living overseas alone is enormous of a **** shoot I just am afraid to go that route. At home where I speak the language maybe it would be worth the risk but at home I'd be unemployed or underemployed. Maybe just cut more carbs out of the diet and hope the vitamins get though customs soon..

Type 2 is a very different beast (and a totally different condition) to type 1. It's very rare to go too high unless you eat a lot of the wrong things or get ketoacidosis as a rare side effect of some drugs, or to go too low.
It will have been slow to develop and will take time to lessen again. Be patient and keep carbs low and you'll get there.
You may find eyes get a bit blurrier temporarily as your sugars drop initially but it does pass and is nothing to worry about. It's just the sugars clearing out and you can almost see them in your eye fluid. Don't panic, it's a good thing.

The doctor seems to wonder if it will clear any and I think the left eye doctor has cleared but there are still 5 of everything. No improvement on the left maybe worse. I am just kind of drowning in issues without much support or good ideas about what's next.
