Hiya , can anyone help me please , I have been type 2 for a while taking metformin sitagliptin and glipizide my diabetes nurse has now put me on insulin , 10 units once a day of humulin m3 kwik pen once a day plus metformin . No longer taking sitagliptin or glipizide . My blood sugars tonight are 27.2 and I feel like rubbish . Is this normal ??? Diet today has been good .

Sorry to hear your on insulin now. Not nice! :( 27 ( mmol i guess) is not good at all. Have you been told about bonus doses of insulin to get it down? You dont want to be that high for too long.

I had problems bringing my BG down when I first started on lantus. I was doing 10 units a day and still getting double digit readings. It wasn't until I started on novo rapid before every meal and sorted my diet out that I started getting better control. 27 is way too high. Keep pestering your dsn. It took a good week or so adjusting my boluses before it all started to click.

Thankyou both very much for replying to me , I will ring my dsn in the morning and ask her about bonus doses of insulin and hopefully she can help me lower my sugar levels . Thanks again

Hi. Your readings are way too high. I was told to aim for a morning fasting test of around 6mmol and currently get between 4 and 5. If you are overweight and insulin resistant you may need more than the 10 units. I would contact the nurse fairly soon as it's obvious that you need to increase your dose one way or another.

Good luck with your levels. I am sure with abit more knowlege, you will do fine. Its still really early days for you. Lots to take in. The forum is always great for advice, tips or just chat. I have found it useful. :))
