Today, at 6pm, I had my first metformin SR tablet.

1 x 500mg per day, at tea time.

This thread is for me to make a record of any benefits or side-effects

After what happened to me with Seroxat, I am very scared of medication. But I have decided to be brave and sensible.

Hi Lucy and I hope the SR is all good regarding side effects,I had problems on standard met BUT absolutely no adverse effects with the glucophage SR version that I still take.

Metformin is a safe drug, the only problem you could get is an upset stomach. Taking it with food stops that. I think you are being sensible, after all if it doesn't work you can come off them again, with a decision between you and your GP. I have no need to take Metformin, but I do, for the heart benefits it affords.

Hi. Compared with Seroxat, Metformin should leave you with virtually no side effects. If you do find you have a metallic taste for a while that's normal for some people but that will fade. It does reduce your appetite which helps with lowering the blood sugar.

Ok, everything fine so far. No reaction at all :D

Can I just ask: Does taking metformin help with weight loss, apart from reducing hunger?

and how much food do I have to take with the pill?
