does anyone know if statins cause type 2 ...i read on one forum that statins can raise blood sugar levels and it can make your gp mistakenly think you have type 2...and if this is true ..would stopping the statins let your blood sugar return to normal.??

Sadly, no. Stopping statins won't cure your diabetes. There has been dome research that says high levels can cause it - not sure how good that research is. But even if it were true, and that's a big if, stopping them wouldn't reverse the situation.

Hi and welcome
atains are given to most diabetic to keep their cholestrel levels lower than 4. I have never heard of any info on statins given you type 2.
Please don't stop statins as you need these.
Take care
Tracey

Hi I agree with the others. I'm not aware of any evidence around that suggests statins cause or make diabetes worse. As long as you don't get muscle aches etc then continue with the statins at the lowest dose that keeps yoru cholesterol below 5.

Hi,

I think this is where the information may have come from.

Once you have been diagnosed it won't go away but you have to weigh that up with the need for statins if your cholesterol levels are high.
