HbA1c
HbA1c 41 (July 2020) Put on Rosuvastatin because of high cholesterol 8.5) and started gaining weight. The doctor said statins do not contribute to weight gain. The normal weight for me was 78Kg, now in March 2021, I hover between 80.4 and 82Kg.
I did not feel right, started getting tinglings at the end of my fingers. I asked for a blood test.
HbA1c now at 46, this was a shock. I am convinced the statins are responsible for this.
Has anyone got viewpoints about the statins?
Pravastatin offers the lowest risk?

There are plenty of views re statins inc @bulkbiker and @Resurgam I was prescribed Pravostatin ‘because all diabetics should be on statins’ - I now know better and my hba1c rose from 48 at diagnosis to 54 within 6 months. I came off them a month later due to other side effects and, within 6 months, my hba1c dropped to 43 and has been at non diabetic levels for approx 8 years. A new GP at the practice has now annotated my records with ‘statin intolerant’ as we don’t want to take the risk of it happening again although my DN still tries to have the ‘statin’ chat!

I have taken Rosuvastatin (Crestor) for about six or seven years, I have had no side effects from it at all. I was told by varios Doctors, that it is the best of the statins for not causing side effects compared to the other varieties.

My diet has been no different to what it was prior to taking the statins.
However, I have now changed and doing this now with my partner
Smaller plates, more balanced food with protein fewer carbs more veg. No white bread, pastries, pasta, biscuits or pizza.
Trying to have three meals per day. We Will see how it goes

My husband (T1 diabetic) takes atorvastin - no side effects at all and no negative effect on his A1c
