Had my bi-annual check up yesterday. The consultant has recommended I start taking statins which will prevent complications. what's your experience with statins and any possible side effects. The consultant did mention something about leg cramps.
Also do any of ya take ace inhibitors which have shown in some studies to prevent kidney damage.

Thanks
DS

I have been taking simvastatin for at least 4 years. amongst the other pills and potions I take is irbesartan , an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, for my blood pressure.

I've had no problems with the simvastatin, apart from forgetting to take it sometimes when I'm exhausted!

My GP reckons everyone should take statins regardless, she thinks it shuould be in the water!

So I expect to be on them when I see her for my first monthly check next week.

I was given Simvistatin and they made my ankles so sore i could hardly stand sometimes.
Im a delivery driver and this realy made work painfull , I have now said no to them and just will not take them.

I take Lisinopril 2.5mg once a day as my kidneys were showing signs of strain the doctor suggested statins but I'm someone who uses the term 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' why introduce chemicals into your body that it doesn't need? We diabetics take enough medication without taking ones we don't actually need yet!

Well if thats the case what the hell is making my ankles so stiff and tender?????????????????????????
It didnt start till i took these dam things i have never had stiff feet legs or ankles.

I got a prescription for Simvastatin. Still not sure if I want to take it or not. Need to do a little more research. From what I've read so far the pills can increase mortality but I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not. Who wants life extending by 12 months if your in no shape to live.

hmmmmmmm?

I have been told that these are a WONDER drug and keep working even after you stop taking them.

Oh dear! Perhaps that is why leg pains have returned 2 years after I stopped taking them

Proberbly not the statin then. I got a dodgy left ankle but that was caused by dropping in on a halfpipe and slamming into the bottom with all my weight on the left leg. You been skateboarding recently? :P

Skatebords, hell i remember them was at a holiday camp when they first came over to try them out.
And no way, fell of first time i tried, and that was, oh hell 30 years ago.

I went for my monthly check up yesterday as I am just weight loss and exercise controlled. Had the full blood count the week before

cholestorol is up to 5.6 (5.5 previously)
Lost another 4lb

everything else testing fine blood suger was 6.3 at 10.45

Nurse wants me to start taking a baby aspirin every day. She also wants me to start using statins and ace inhibitors.

Just dont know if I want the statins. My blood pressure was up again but she seems to drop a bombshell like you should be on statins and then takes my bp.

I dont have to see her now until October as seeing the dietician again in September to see if they can remove anything else from my diet. grrrrrrr

Take a look around local chemists and you may find a blood pressure machine for about £15 i have one and do my own every day , always do 3 and take the lowest reading.

yes I got my own bp monitor coz my bp is always high at the hospital and the doc was a little concerned. Took plenty of readings at home and they were all normal. I was happy and so was the doc.

Statins have apparently shown to reduce the risk of neuropathy also. aswell as the main killer for type ones which is heart desease. After hours of contemplation I think I will take this tablet. doesnt bother me after injecting insulin all my life. I suppose its just increasing the odds for a happy long life.
