Statins

Me again on about statins .I was put on to simvastatin and had to come off them was getting leg pain with them. Ok now I am on atorvastatin and for the last few days have had a sore back and just fell really tired and not right. Has any body been on these and had the same or is it just me HELP

Yes thanks. I tried four different statins. Two of them took me off my legs for a month each time. One made my body go rigid such that I was rushed into the doctor's room and sent to the physio. The fourth one gave me symptoms of gastro enteritis. I couldn't really say which one was worse.

My record now shows that I am intolerant of statins so even if they are good for me I can't take them.
 
I have got a sore back and it has only started when I started the statins I am normally on the go all the time and do some road cycling there is no way I can get out the way I fell just now going to stop the tablets and see if it goes away
Thanks for the in site all the doctors keep saying is you need to take them or you will have a heart attack or a stroke

The third statin I tried made me go rigid but in particular my shoulders and neck felt warm and I couldn't move my head. For all I know my back was involved but a lot was going on at the time so I can't be sure.

After going though all that for many months I then read this.

I too cannot take statins,
i have been on ezetemibe for the last 5 yrs and so far so good
 
I took Atorvastatin for about a year but suffered leg weakness, not pain. I was only prescribed then as a precaution so I stopped taking them.

QE2 hospital consultant told me basically that ezemtibe was useless. Better to take 1 atoravastatin a wek. I can't tolerate any statin at all.

Everybody that has side effects shoukd be reporting to MHRA as GP's don't, and they should.

Yes every one ho has side affects should report then because the doctors said to me even if your readings were ok when you go over 40 I put all my patients in them

I woke up last year and literly fell oht of bed in pain and crawled my way to our toilet. My hubby called 999. Admitsd to jospital on morphine for 2 days.

Had similar years ago.

Consuktant told me diabetic amyitrophy -discharged with hill billy morphine drugs.

When EMG scan done to confirm diabetic amyotrophy.... Yep, you guessed - it wasn't...

So what caused this excruciating pain, what has caused these pains in my legs for almost 7 years of and on? What has caused me heart palpjtations that stop as soon as I stop taking them?

What caused me to have 1 year free of pain when They were out of my system but started again when re tsking them?

The only factor I gave iis any type of statin. But will consultants and gp's recognise this and report it?


NO. They all say they dont lnow what the problem is, but its not statins.


There is no other common denominator. Have they reported it? NO.

I got extreme tiredness when I tried statins. Atorvastatin and simvastatin. I felt mentally dopey as well (yes more so than usual). My GP was bulk prescribing them like he was on commission. As a diabetic I was a no brainer. I asked, isn't the only evidence for their use in men in their 50s who've had a heart attack. He said "yes but". Yes but, the unknown danger in not taking them is greater than the unknown danger in taking them. I kid you not. This idiot actually went to medical school?

Anyway so now I just renew my prescription from time to time to keep them off my back, and leave the statins in the cupboard. I seriously couldn't do my job if I was on statins. I do keep an eye on my lipid profile and try to manage that myself as well as I can.

It varies. I was ok for about eighteen months then became very ill. Joint pains, severe nausea, exhaustion to the point where I couldn't function at all. I was put on a statin following two heart attacks, but to be candid I don't believe they ought to be prescribed to every diabetic per sae and I will NEVER take them again.
 
I only took the first lot for a week and got leg pain the other ones I got were the same but this time it is my back and really tired and no energy so that it no more

Drowsiness and lethargy came on immediately, within days.
 
Time varies for getting sideeffects and for getting rid of them as well. My heart palpitations started after 9 months and went the next day after I stopped them. My leg pains have lasted years..I had a year of reluef before consultants and gp's suggested other types again.
Leg pain has continued again and I suspect will go on for years again before it may stop.

I have took simvastatin for many years and didn't appear to have any side effects from them. However, in January this year my consultant changed me to Atorvastatin and it has sent my blood sugars out of control. From ranging from 4.5-7.0 on Monday they were all 19 and 20+ after steadily increasing day on day from almost as soon as I started them.. I stopped taking them on Monday and on Wednesday had a mild hypo. I have never been so happy to have a hypo!! I am almost back down to my normal bolus amount of insulin-but yesterday from late afternoon to early evening had 3 hypos the worst being 2.3.so more reductions needed.
 
Also like Robert 2170 I have had back pain, and terrible tiredness to the point I was almost falling asleep at work. Also pain under my shoulder blades.
 
The back pain I have a thought I had done my back in it was the same pain when I had a slipped disc only diff my left foot was not numb.
There is not enough said about these the doctor just push them on you and expect you to just go away and not say anything we'll sorry it won't be me that is the last statin I take it will be out on the bike as much as I can to keep my levels down
