Hi been type 2 for few years and honestly not taken it seriously if things got high I could always sort it by dieting and going low carb. However not do now . Found out my sugars were really high couple if weeks ago and since then been pretty strict low carb but cannot get them down. Meals are only increasing them by 2 or 3 points but my starting levels are so high. I have even tried not eating all after breakfast in the hope they will drop lower before I have my dinner so I'm at a good starting point but it's not happening. It's so hard eating a meal when you are starting at 10 or 11 or even higher. My GP had prescribed me some new medication called Jardinance and told me this will make me pee more but I haven't started it yet as I was hoping diet could get me down lower not looking forward to peeing more !!!! I'm up 2 or 3 times a night anyway. Will diet help ? How long will it take been low carbing for 2 weeks now with no real noticeable difference how can they still be high if I'm not giving my body any carbs just took morning bloods 14.6 after a dinner last night of steak bricoli asparagus and green beans with home made cream fraiche stilton sauce . Nothing to eat after that I'm so upset and frustrated and feel so out of control. Any advice please 're what I'm doing wrong and is anyone taking same meds I have been given?

It does not sound like you are doing anything wrong maybe if you have just started to do low carb again it will take a little while for you blood glucose levels to come down so just keep persevering with it and I am sure they will come down. Sorry I do not know about the medication you have been given

You are probably not doing anything wrong. The fact that your blood sugars only rose 2 or 3 points after eating means your diet is ok. Sometimes diabetes just progresses, and we need to take medication to control it as well as the diet.

My own personal experience is that it took about 4-5 weeks before I achieved any significant reduction in my average blood sugar levels when i started low carbing. Have you had any reduction at all in your pre-meal figures yet? although the jardiance will make you pee more, you wont also be peeing more due to high blood sugar levels, so it sort of balances itself out with the amount fo times you pee.

are you getting enough fluids during the day?

Thanks for reply there has been sight lowering in late afternoon but nothing in morning or lunch.e really. It's quite scary eating a meal knowing my sugars are so high

its early days yet. A slight lowering is a good sign : )

see how the next couple of weeks goes. Has your grandchild arrived yet?

Hi. Jardiance is one of the newer diabetes drugs which I've never had. Hopefully it will help. Keep an eye on your blood sugar and if it continues to go up despite the tablets and low-carbing then check with the GP. If you are slim then T1 is always a possibility but see how you go with the tablets and diet.
