I found out I'm prediabetic just over 6 weeks ago and almost immediately I cut back on my carbs and reduced the amount of sugar and sweetener I was having. I did lose a small amount of weight to start off with (a couple of pounds) but I very quickly reached a plateau and then started regaining that weight. It's now creeping up even more and I'm still exhausted. I went back to see the doctor and told her my symptoms and she ordered another blood test, this time checking for thyroid and anaemia instead of just the FBG and HbA1c. I should be getting the results back next week but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for increasing my energy?

I would also ask your doctor to check you for Vitamin D3. I was unable to lose weight and tired all the time prior to diagnosis and the Vitamin D3 deficiency was picked up at the same time. Within a week of starting supplementation, I started losing weight and was able to start exercising. It made the biggest difference, even more so than getting my BG back to normal (which took longer).

Good luck getting things sorted out :)

Sorry to hear that.

How many carbs do you think you're having a day? It wasn't til I got down to about 30g that I started to feel more energetic. Do you have your carbs in one hit or spread them out?

And water - are you drinking enough?

Hope you feel better soon xxx

Thanks Deb, I average about 60 carbs a day. I split them between breakfast and lunchtime, I never have carbs after lunch. I must admit I don't drink as much water as I should, I drink a lot of tea but I should carry a bottle of water with me as well. Thanks for your suggestions xx

I should be able to, I can have yoghurt and berries for my breakfast or a nice fry up at the weekend. My biggest problem is money, I've been looking for a job for 5 years and the money situation at the moment is disastrous. I really can't afford to buy special foods just for myself. I can identify with young kids that don't sleep as well, my son is autistic and had severe sleep problems when he was younger. He didn't sleep through the night till he was 6!

My good bill has definitely increased lately! Good luck at docs x

Just got back from the docs - I got the all clear! It looks like the problem was dehydration because I made a real effort to drink more water yesterday and my FBG was 0.8 lower this morning! I also got a much better nights sleep last night which made all the difference. Thanks everyone for your input.
