Okay, best to make some sort of list with questions you would like to ask, also a food diary if you have one, try and describe your symptoms clearly and have a pain rating of 1 to 10 guide, when you get the painful cramps. Got to pop out now with my daughter, good luck and can you let us know how you get on. ps be assertive and in control, YOU are having uncomfortable pains and there is a reason for this which needs investigating. Good luck x

Hi NicolaAnne at least now you have a diagnosis. My daughter has had IBS since junior school and she manages really well, and no big problems.. Were you prescribed any medication? GP probably told you about what foods to avoid, as some foods can cause flare up's.
I hope you start to feel much better very soon X Take care

My niece had chronic IBS from teens, had huge amounts of explorations done and IBS confirmed and put on tablets, still didn't work.

She went to a hypnotist and agter 3 sessions she has never looked back. She has since been to 3rd world countrys to help them and now in full time work without worries.

I had never heard of this before and was really sceptical but for her it gave her life back.

I'm glad you got a diagnosis, at least you know what it is now !
IBS is connected with stress for sure, you have had quite a bit of that:eek:

I read somewhere recently that it is also common in Type 1's , whether this is because of stress or something else I can't remember. I can't remember where I read it either, grrrr !

Learn to give yourself some good praise and tell yourself that you done great etc.

I know you can do this. Give yourself a pat on the back when things go well...from knowing you for just a very short time, I know that you don't appear to see how good you are. It does help to think when stressed-actually I managed xxxx before, I can handle this...

Don't forget you had a huge amount of things going on, and blimey your bg's today have been absolutely superb... Sometimes, you have to take a bit of time to feel proud at what you have achieved...and think, well-I've done this... Now that's one less thing to get stressed about.

Sometimes you have to let go of thoughts that stress you and find different things to do instead.. Whether it's work or socially etc...it's not all about the past, but what you can do in the future.....

Hi my daughter used to take Mebeverine , not the capsules though, as she was( and still is) a child ( and couldn't swallow tablets),. It's a stomach relaxant to help stop the stomach cramps and it has to be taken about 15/20 minutes before meals. My sister had IBS, so did my older daughter, my brother had a twisted bowel last year and I have Coeliac disease,:inpain: so it would appear that digestive/bowel problems run in our family and IBS is much more common in females!:( x
