After a brief rise when I came off glyclazide my sugar levels have settled back into the 4's and are remaining there quite happily.
I'm tempted to stop the 2x500 glucophage I take to see if I can continue without diabetes drugs. Anyone else done this? Is it a good idea?

It's really personal preference - there is a lot of research coming out about how glucophage is beneficial for all sorts of reasons beyond diabetes, including heart disease, longevity, etc. So, if you tolerate it well, regularly check your B12 levels (as glucophage can impair absorption), it might be worthwhile staying on it. Up to you really as your BG seems to be doing great :)

Hello Chris, I am on metformin two tablets in morning and two in evening. Three weeks ago I dropped of one morning tablet and so far my BG readings are holding there own at between 4 to 6 hope this helps regards .

Why not, you can always go back to it if it doesn't work.

I've been almost 3 months now on Gliclazide (Diamicron MR 30mg) + metformin. From 18, to 11, now hitting high 4's consistently. Maybe I'll go for another 2 to 6 months before I try to get off Gliclazide like you. I am not yet sure as literature on the Diamicron MR states that it protects beta cells and beta cell regeneration can even occur. How long was it before you came off gliclazide ? Thanks

Good Luck if you come of them..... am sure will not hurt to experiment .. I had to come off them once because my iron levels were very low I actually had two infusions to correct it but am back on them again now :)

I stopped metformin last summer after taking them for almost 10yrs my BG levels are usually in the normal range but have to work at it every day :) (exercise and lchf) Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hi @Chris Thailand

Not long after starting the ND when my levels had dropped to around 5 I stopped taken Metformin (2 x 500ml) as an experiment. They continued to drop so I stayed off them. I was a bit worried about not having told my Doc but when I went back to him he said it was the right thing to do as my levels were so good

Hi Marco! I was on 60mg diamicron sr for about 7 months then down to 30 for maybe three then off them completely. Had a couple of weeks of elevated readings (as I did when the dose was halved) then everything settled down again. Frustrating at the time, though

Hey Muzza! I've got my three-monthly check at the hospital in April so I think I'll hold on and run it past the doctor first; the pills are cheap enough!
I was on janumet for a while and that stuff is EXPENSIVE!
