Strawberries or fruit in general

Hi All,

Kind of went overboard on eating strawberries and peaked at 16 today. Never been so high, period.

Usually, I only have 3 small but had about 8 larger today, so it serves me right.

It got me thinking and thought I'd reach out to you about your experiences with fruit and how you manage to eat it without blowing your levels.

What tips or what do you do?

Thanks

Add fats, they slow down a spike. Clotted cream, for instance? Or full fat greek yog? I'm okay with a few berries, but fats make it more doable. Might help you, too.

Were strawberries the only thing you ate, @Jordy McKirgan ?
Did you add anything to them, or drink anyrhing?

I find berries ok. No discernible rise in BG, but don’t get on with citrus fruits or grapes.

As @JoKalsbeek says I can eat five or six strawberries with my breakfast which contains fats, it is a keto coconut ‘porridge’, not really porridge, but a pleasant alternative made from egg, butter, coconut cream, coconut flour, psyllium husk powder and salt. I only see a modest rise from that, never over 6.

I've never tried keto, so I'll add this to my next shop to try.

One good thing if you can say that, is diabetes does encourage you to try new foods.

Many thanks

1 I try not to go overboard with portion sizes. I say try because 100g of strawberries feels like deprivation to me.

2 Always have my fruit after a full-sized meal eg yesterday had some orange juice, and today it'll be a few grapes with brie.

3 It's an excuse to eat cream, not that I need one. In fact I've asked that when my daughter comes home from uni for the summer, when they buy sugary pots of dessert, please could I have a small pot of thick cream all to myself instead!

Here’ the recipe for the ‘porridge’ if you fancy giving it a try:
I have a different version as I follow a vegan diet.
Coconut flour, hemp seed powder, ground golden linseed, protein powder and almond milk. I either put in a bowl and leave overnight and have it chilled or gently heat altogether in the morning. I also add a few berries and some yogurt. Yummy
