Type 2 Stress and type2 diabetes

Hi, I’m not sure how this works.
I’ve been type2 for about 40years and I inject insulin 4 times a day. Before meals and last thing at night.

I’m not perfect in my control but I’m not too bad either. I’m mid stream in an annual review and so far I’ve been told my blood pressure results and my urine sample are fine.
I’m waiting on blood test results.

Just over a year ago I lost my wife. We had been married for 46 years.
I decided to downhouse to a smaller dwelling as there is just me and the pooch.
It’s been a nightmare although, I hope, it is reaching a conclusion.

Recently my blood sugar levels, which I monitor on line, have been going crazy. Sometimes I can rationalise the readings with some food abuse but often there is no reason I can see for the hypos I’m experiencing.

Worryingly I ve had overnight readings down to 2 with a rapid plunge from levels around 7 to 8. I ve used glucose tablets to stabilise the readings.

I’m wondering if the stress I’ve been suffering could have caused my problems?

Hi @Edwina54 and welcome to the forum. My condolences on your loss.
Stress is certainly one of the approximately 40 things (apart from food) which affect Blood Glucose levels. Other major ones are lack of sleep, illness, injury, medications including both Statins and steroids.

I have no personal experience of hypos, since I'm a diet controlled Type 2 (in remission for the last 5 yrs).

Yes stress can affect your diabetes greatly. The 2 most stressful things have happened to you, moving and divorce/bereavement.
I'm type 1 and stress can affect my diabetes both ways depending on the type of stress.
I'm wondering why your on 4 injections being type2? I've know type 2 to have 1 injection alongside metformin.

It’s not unusual to have 4 injections per day. The regime I am on is a Lantus injection before bed then injections of Trurapi before meals at least for times a day, dosage depending on my BS readings. My failing though is I don’t always inject early enough before meals so I’m doing correction doses afterwards which isn’t so good.

Thanks. Injections are Humulin S at mealtimes (and snacks) and Humulin I overnight. I have metformin with my evening meal.

I’ve had pretty good control over the last 20 years but suddenly some pretty dramatic readings. Sometimes I can explain but mainly I can’t.
I’m hoping it will go away when my house change goes through - 3 weeks I hope. Thanks for your reply.
