STRESS - How does it affect your body?

Hey there beeties peeps,

I was wondering, what happens to your body/bloody sugars when you are stressed? Say for example your boss arrives at works, takes all his/her pressures out on you leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth as well as a looong list of things on your to do list - what happens to your numbers?

I have to say, I've started a new job, not enjoying it as much as I was hoping and as a result my numbers have been ALL over the shop, I'm blaming the stress for it.

Let me know your thoughts!

Weeza

Hi, I'm a type 2, but we have the same response to stress. We produce cortisol. Cortisol (hydrocortisone) is a steroid hormone, more specifically a glucocorticoid, produced by the zona fasciculata of the adrenal gland. It is released in response to stress and a low level of blood glucocorticoids. Its primary functions are to increase blood sugar through gluconeogenesis; suppress the immune system; and aid in fat, protein and carbohydrate metabolism.
So no wonder our BGs go up when we're stressed!
