I've bn told I cant get my contour next stripas I got the moniture on line as thy said its ilegal for thm to give thm to me is tht true

That doesn't sound right to me. Lots of people buy their own meters from various different places and have no problem obtaining strips.

Where does legality come into it?

Are you on any meds @mandy1966 ?

I don't know about 'illegal' but most Type 2s arent prescribed test strips unless they're on certain meds.

Was it your practise nurse who told you that? It's probably to do with the CCG saying no test strips for type 2 diabetics unless they are using hypo inducing tablets or insulin if this is the case. You need to buy the code free meter and test strips as they are cheapest on the market.
If it was the practise nurse or GP said it was illegal then that's wrong and very naughty of them as they should have explained the situation to you correctly.

I thought anyone could buy a meter and strips, even if they don't have diabetes. I mean, it's good to know what your body is doing and to deny someone that opportunity seems a bit silly to me.

They can buy them but won't be able to get strips on prescription unless they're on certain meds.

I buy contour next strips on EBay regularly no problem you have to be careful of expiry dates though.

The nice guide lines are just that guide lines if your GP thinks after consultation with you that you do in fact need them then he is perfectly at liberty to prescribe them. They just in the main choose not to.

I have been told that my GP will not prescribe strips for meters that are different to the meter he prescribes so when I bought my first meter I bought the same one as the doctor prescribes but still couldn't get strips as was type2 on metformin only and he wouldn't give them to me.

I live in Scotland yes I do
If you are a T2 on insulin then you should have no difficulties getting strips on your prescription. Due to insulin having the ability to cause hypoglycemia, it's even more advisable to test your BG - so I'd imagine you should be eligible to get these on the NHS.

In terms of legality, there is nothing which would make prescribing test strips against any of our laws. For instance, I bought my own meter and have the test strips prescribed to me. I also bought the meter online and live in Scotland.

You may however encounter difficulties if the strips you desire are more expensive than those which would have been prescribed to you by default. This is purely from a financial standpoint though.

The pricing in the attached document may help you argue your case. It's probably not for NHS Scotland but will be there or there abouts in terms of pricing. I think I got this from @tim2000s, so thank him for it; if it's of any use/help to you:)

Thnx I'm just gonna see my diabetes nurse to see about the new contour next usb one so I can control my diabetes with it as it comes with a app

I'm on insulin

Then you should get strips on prescription. I'm Type 1 and I chose my blood meter and my GP prescribes the strips I need for it.

I suggest you speak to your GP or nurse and explain you already have a different meter so need strips for that one.
