hi im after some advice, suggestions or tips on how to manage with tiredness. i feel so flat and couldn't even manage to go into college today, as im feeling like someone has touched me and stolen my energy.

are there any particular foods or drinks that may help with this, or are there any supplements that i could take to help?

are there any foods that i should be avoiding?

what kind of eating plan is best for T2, as im quite confused about this and am unsure if i should follow a low fat, low carb or count calories.

my diabetes is controlling me at the moment, and im feeling a bit lost on how to manage

thanks

What are your blood sugars like?

I'm T1, hba1c of 6.1% and generally we controlled. But I feel the same as you, have done for about a year. Complete felt and generally lethargic.

I've started running, around June, and that helped a bit to boost me in the evenings. But in general I feel drained and weary

i felt the same , just had the diagnosis less than a month , as for blood monitoring I feel it is vital , my doctor seems not to agree , I was left with more questions than answers there , however , I reckoned for me it was too many carbs over the weekend , sat with a small bowl of nachos and dip twice , also eating was erratic , exercise is a great lift , but again , the blood sugar question , night before last I could have grazed the local chippy clean after an hour of aerobic workouts , settled for veg soup , if you are looking for a free meter see the link on the forum for glucomine they are giving starter kits out as freebies ,http://www.glucomen.co.uk/index.php?page=request , if you are trying to lose the weight (forgive me if you are not ) you up the veg and protein , use carrot , celery and pepper strips for snacks as well as nuts but not cashews or peanuts salted or otherwise and a small handful at a time ,bananas, cherry tomatoes or soreen malt loaf is a tasty snack , this will boost energy , but you really need to know what your meds and diet are doing to you ,the main reason for myself who utterly hates needles being prepared to stick one into myself to check sugar levels , is there a local support group near you ? , I learned more about the condition in a half hour from mine than I got from the doctors surgery , all the best HBD

Hi Tasha,

I felt exactly the same when i was diagnosed in August, i got a blood testing machine and tested 2 hours after eating certain things. You will be surprised what makes you feel rubbish and what doesn't. I try and low carb it and eat plenty of fruit and veg now (just watch the natural sugars in them!).

Try not to pick at food either i find personally that makes me feel worse. It does get better you just have to hang in there :D Also are you on any medication? This can make you feel bad when you first take it. Speak to your DN too see what they say. Hope your feeling better soon x

i have no idea, i wasn't informed that i needed to take readings of it :|

The reason I ask is because lethargy or general tiredness is a symptom of high blood sugar

Apart from high blood sugar, the following can also cause tiredness and low energy
Vitamin D deficiency
Anaemia
Underactive Thyroid
Vitamin B12 deficiency

All the above are treatable with medication, as is high blood sugar with a low carb diet.

Do you have any excess weight to lose? I feel so much better since I lost weight but if you'd asked me before I lost it (and I still have some to lose) I would have said I felt fine.

The difference has surprised me. And I have cut back on my beloved carbs!
