Hi, new to forum been a brittle type 1 since I was 12 ( now 36 ) never been controlled though not for the lack of trying! I suffer with neuropathy and just had my first round of laser eye surgery.
Am always tiered from sugars being up and down and seem to be suffering from confusion a fair bit.
I have a physically demanding job and am finding it a struggle to cope with and to provide for my loving family.
I'm not normally the talking type and these forums are all new to me. I was just wondering how you keep going from people who knows how it feels.
Sorry for the rant!

Hi @jon1980 :)

Having brittle diabetes must be very hard. Diabetes is enough work even without that.

I suppose I keep going by taking one day at a time, and thinking about my sugars at that moment, trying not to agonise over past failures.

Do you use any kind of CGM to help you with your blood sugar swings?

Hi, thanks for the reply
I do try to take one day at the time and I'm normally really laid back and accept things for what they are, but after 24 years I feel like this thing has finally got the better of me.
I'm always testing and jabbing but I'm sure my sugars have a mind of there own! Like today I've had my sugars stable all day (around 11 ish which is very good for me) and now all of a sudden they have gone through the roof for no apparent reason.
I know some of the reason is no two days are the same for me as far as routine goes so I do struggle to keep them steady.
I think I've just hit a bit off a wall at the mo and am just tired of fighting all the time

Hi mate hope u are feeling a bit more positive today. I can relate 100% to how you are feeling right now.

Like u I am 36 and just had laser in both eyes. I have always tested and injected but my levels have always been up and down.

I posted the other day about my frustrations. I am trying to nail this thing once and for all but it is so tough. All I can say is keep trying. It won't magically change over night but if u keep going and keep tweaking we will get there

I have been doin it for 50yrs and I am still not much good. They changed me to Toujeo but I think this is more difficult for me. Might ask to go back on Levimer at least that was more adjustable.
Best wishes to you. Try to take one day at a time every little improvement helps. Do a DAFNE course this is very good, the dietition I saw was extremely good.

Hi, yes I'm sure we will get there one day just need to find my fight again! I'm sure it will be back soon, it doesn't normally keep me down for long and everyone seems supportive on here.
I've read some of your other posts and I've got to say it all sounds very familiar.
The only difference being I've never had much control over sugar levels (not through lack of trying)

50 years, that makes me a newby still!
If you think the Levimer suited you better then I would go back to it, after all nobody knows your body better than yourself.
I've recently changed to tresiba which seems to be suiting me better although they don't like dishing it out I'm my area (Hampshire) due to cost.

What kind of diet do you follow? I could never keep bs steady without LCHF. I needed that as T2 as well as T 1. Carbs were always a **** shoot. I need to stay under 20 a day and all from above ground veggies. I need to moderate my protein as well and then fill in with fat. I couldn't stand the way fluctuations felt. This isn't neccesarily my preferred way to eat but it is the one that makes me feel best and have the steadiest BS. STINKS....but such is life. I now eat to live, period.

Hi kristin
I've no real set diet although I do avoid to many carbs and have totally given up on rice and pasta. As a household we all have a healthy diet as we all have our issues! My wife does slimming world, my youngest daughter is allergic to dairy and intolerant to soya and even the dog has ibs so it's a healthy diet all round!
I have just started looking at the Lchf diet but need to do a bit more research before I jump in

Ah yes, I certainly think you will do much better on low carb as far as bs ups and downs. Who doesn't have IBS in one form or another? Lol. Including the pets.

Plenty of research on this forum.

Unkind people, failure to take personal responsibility.
Jon1980, I'm only 3 weeks post diag and I've found www.dietdoctor.com very helpful for LCHF and having now read around half a dozen books, my best recommendation would be "the art and science of low carb living"... Absolutely fantastic.

Just finished reading 'Pure, White and Deadly' by Yudkin about sugar which is one of the first to come out in the 70s. I follow the diet doctor, ditch the carbs, all day I dream about food, I breathe I'm hungry blogs to name a few good low carb blogs. I also have my own blog (www.thedailyapple.com.au) but I am working on a revamped version that is focused purely around low carb, no sugar, high protein, high fat, as I have some low GI recipes on my blog too, but you will find lots of low carb options too.

Sounds like a great idea:) we certainly need to take every opportunity to course correct this vast juggernaut. Good luck with the revamp:)
