I'm a T2 with borderline personality disorder (introverted), clinical depression and social and general anxiety disorder, as well as PTSD and what have you. So I do hear you; food can be something that trips us up when we feel bad. The thing is... When our blood sugars are high, our moodswings/depression etc will get that much worse too. I'll never be called well by any means, but I do have a more stable mood with my blood sugars under control, and way, way less panic attacks. (Ask my husband, 5 years ago I was a right dragon who needed saving every hour!). I don't have blood sugar control for myself, I had to find a reason outside of myself to get this thing under my thumb. Personally, I keep my blood sugars (and thus, also my cholesterol) in the normal range for my husband. Any reason to get a grip will do. Friends, family, the cat for all I care... But find something that motivates you to hang in there and stick with a low carb diet to give yourself a change to get diabetes sorted and your mental issues as well. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/ might help a little. And finding things that are decadent and enjoyable, and considered "bad" by those who are ill informed, like extra dark chocolate, cream, devilled eggs, nice full fat cheeses, whatever floats your boat, might be able to function as comfort foods. I don't usually snack anymore, but I was having a bit of a rough afternoon, so I just downed a Dutch smoked sausage, two hours before dinner. Practically zero carbs but fatty as heck and filling like you wouldn't believe. So I'll still find comfort in food, even if it's something good for my diet rather than bad. I don't sabotage myself in the process, just find work-arounds.Hi have been type 2 since 2016 for the first few years I was managing to keep it controlled by exercise & diet then two years ago not so much as was struggling with my MH I was put on Metformin 500mg twice a day fast forward to a few weeks ago when I had my review after missing last years due to pandemic Nearly all my results came back High so the sugessested I upped my dose to 1000mg x 2 daily I had an instant bad reaction which landed me in A&E spending the night hooked up to an IV drip with both Antibiotics & fluids as I had developed a uti as well ,
I spoke with my GP's Diabetic nurse & she put me on the slow release Metformin same 1000mg x 2 a day to which I have had a bit of a reaction to so the dose was decreased & I have an Appointment next week as I am being given a Meter as have been told I now have to check levels everyday This is not how I expected stuff to play out ,
I struggle with food & I tend to fall back into bad habits when my MH is bad I am also a bit of a fussy eater but I have made changes I try to cook from scratch when I can I don't drink or smoke I actually just drink water I am eliminating processed food as much as I can .
But this latest set back has really shocked me they did mention stations as well but I have low tolerance to them as well .
Any Advice would be very welcome sorry for the long post
Do you have an idea of your most recent HBA1C?
Agree or have a family history of heart disease.Hi. I hope you get more support from your surgery. Note that Statins have nothing to do with diabetes and should only be prescribed if your blood tests show your various lipids (cholesterol) ratios are not good i.e. LDL, HDL, Trigs etc
