I joined this site a month ago and on 16th March was convinced after reading all the endorsements for LCHF that this was the answer for me too.

I embraced it totally from that day and haven't had a sllice of bread since, nor any rice, pasta, potatoes, cakes, biscuits or chocolate except for making my own bounty truffles as a Mothers Day treat for myself from a recipe given here. I've lost my sweet tooth and found my self-discipline again, plus rediscovered the pleasure of cooking good meals for myself and shopping/eating well.

I've watched my fasting bs come down from 10 on 16th March to 7.1 this morning, and my +2 after meals from 11.3 on 16th March to 6.6 yesterday.

In the first week I lost 3lbs but have regained 2lb which I can't shift and this is troubling me. I do need to lose some weight - 2 stone ideally and had set myself a personal goal of losing a stone by 1st May as I have a special event on 4th May that I need to look good for.

I'm puzzled why I can't shift the weight when so many others are reporting rapid and impressive weight loss.

I 'm totally commited to the LCHF it makes such good sense but I'm getting despondent on the weight loss, perhaps because I've set myself a target that I desperately want to reach. Oh and I have my annual review next Wednesday so would love to show the DN I've made some changes which are effective:)

Thanks for reading

I went through the same. I plateaued for 3 weeks. Gained then lost so overall difference each week was zero. Make sure you drink loads. And I mean loads. Weigh yourself on e a week. Keep going. After 3 weeks I lost a lb. then started losing 2lb a week after. Keep the faith! Go and treat yourself - new top, lippy, book - whatever floats your boat! Big hugsx

Aww thanks @Scandichic

Didn't realise you were the same - have been hating you for your significant weight loss, and thought it must have been immediate!!
I'm drinking 3 litres of water a day and keep a 1.5 litre jug on my desk. Thought I'd be needing the bathroom during the night, but only need to get up once.

Sleeping like a baby and have so much more energy and mental clarity.

I'm having a new slinky lace dress made for my party - does that count as treat? :)

Will keep going, thank you. Big hugs back at ya xxx

Yes, I agree, drink loads of water to flush through any extra protein you may be eating. Can't really advise with weight loss because I am struggling with that myself at the moment! Keep looking at your BG's though, I am sure this will help you with weight loss longer term. With you, I think it's just a blip which will rectify itself in the next week or two.

Keep up the good work

Nursie said that I was to go for a walk each morning. I have done so ever since and that was when the weight started to shift.

Definitely! Is it for a birthday party? You could make a grand entrance to groove Amadas I see you baby - shaking that ass! Lol! Go dianagrace!

Hi Diana, It could be that you are having too much fat, you only need enough fat to make up calories. I started on the LFHC around the middle of January this year and to date have lost a total of 19lbs. I was losing aroung 2lb a week.

Hope you are all successful in your weight loss. Good luck.

Marilyn

I've plateaued for about 2 yrs, in fact since I contracted diabetes.

If I were not getting weight loss I would be watching my intake of fat as it is easy to underestimate as in basic terms:
Sugar= 48kcal/ Tbsp Fat = 120kcal/Tbsp
Best of luck.

Nursie said that I was to go for a walk each morning. I have done so ever since and that was when the weight started to shift.

Thanks for the tip! Just had my morning walk - brisk, lasting 1 hr 10 mins and have observed I have less energy in the mornings than the afternoons. Perhaps due to not yet getting my fasting levels down enough?

Hi Marilyn

Thanks for that - you could be right. Ugh!

I've never been a big drinker, Mrs sanguine is always on at me about drinking more but I find it hard because I don't normally get thirsty. I try and have a glass of water next to me all the time, but then I get distracted or I'm focussing on work and an hour later the glass is still full.

I need to be more disciplined about this I think.

Do you keep a food diary Diana?

I have found that to be a great help in understanding all sorts of things. Something like myfitnesspal, which I like, but there are lots of others, allows me to enter what I've eaten, and adjust portion sizes accordingly, and the database will (usually!) contain that food already, and give me the calories, carbs, fat etc that I have consumed. If I eat the same thing again at a later date, the food is still stored in my own database and just takes seconds to add.

If you already do this, it would be worthwhile reviewing it to see if calories are higher, or lower, than you need. Eating too little will slow your metabolism, as you body will resort to starvation mode.

Plateaus are so frustrating. I didn't weight myself for almost 3 months past-diagnosis, because I had programmed myself to accept that weight loss was a side effector getting my bloods into shape. And I didn't have scales here, and didn't bother to buy anything. That probably did me a favour.

Are your clothes feeling looser? If you are exercising more, you may be losing fat, but gaining heavier muscle, which can negate a weight loss shown on the scales. When I eventually did buy scales for here, I bought a body monitor, which takes multi-point readings, via feet and hands, and outputs weight, BMI, fat and muscle percentages as well as a visceral fat reading.

Stick with it. You'll get there. Especially if you are feeling better in yourself and your bloods are moving in the right direction.

Dianagrace, it will happen, don't worry and don't give up. I've been stuck for the past three weeks, yesterday I lost two pounds! Delighted. Today they found me again! I feel it's because I'm not exercising enough but although the scales are stuck my clothes feel much looser. Keep going girl, it's not an overnight thing. Hugs.

I think keeping a food diary (myfitnesspal or one of your own making) is your best bet, and look at your calories. Weight loss is all about calories in/calories out. If you don't control the calories you won't lose weight. You may have to alter the balance of what you are eating, ie less fat and more protein, or less of both. It is very easy to forget these calories when concentrating on cutting out the carbs. I have lost 19lbs since January plus 4" off my waist by lowish carbs (now on about 110g a day) and controlling calories from fat and protein by portion control. (1200 cals a day). I haven't plateau'd at all as yet.

Just make sure you ate taking in the expected calories to lose weight. Your body can think it is in starvation mode and rebel so that you do not lose weight.
My fitness pal is great as it earns you if you have not taken in enough calories to lose your expected weight...

Why do LCHF? Certainly Low-carb but there is no reason at all to do High-fat and I wonder where this recent High-fat fashion has come from?. Have only the amount of fat and protein you need to take enough calories in bearing in the Low-carb
