Just starting to eat low carb. Every Sunday we have a roast dinner (normally chicken). While I will make the usual for the rest of the family I am looking for suggestions as to what I can have in place of potatoes (and Yorkshire puddings). Any suggestions?

I make cauliflower cheese with creme fraiche and grated cheese- cook cauli, drain, mix with the creme fraiche, cheese, loads of black peppetr and bung in oven till golden brown. Or else you could make cauliflower mash with cream and cheese. Or celeriac mash or roast chunks of it. If you like swede and it doesn't spike your BS, chunks of it roasted are nice and lower in carbs than spuds.

Roast cauli is nice. Also some root veg are much lower in carb than potato, e.g. Turnip, swede, parsnip, beetroot, carrots. Could try roasting these too?

butternut squash i like roasted yummy x only 90p at lidi for large on to so goes along way

I roast celeriac swede and onions in with the roast spuds for my H I roast them in coconut oil and they come out really well H is now eating less spuds because he likes my veg mixture !

I find carrot a bit too carby for me but celeriac and swede mash is better and yummy you can also add a mashed garlic in too for a bit of a zing ,dont forget the butter though:)

Swede and carrot mash is better than normal mash ! So tasty !

Coincidentally, my wife has just pointed out an article in the Daily Wail at: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...diologist-targets-tum-just-cutting-wheat.html

It's a lot to do with not eating wheat, and losing weight fast, but in amongst that there's some interesting ways to use low carb ingredients (cauliflower hash browns, linseed wraps and cauliflower pizza base, for example?)

IMHO, if you're looking for recipe ideas it's well worth a look

I have got past trying to substitute potatoes etc. Just eat more/wider range of vegetables (and have the chicken skin, too).

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. Will let you know what I try tomorrow
