After the shock discovery Friday and mix ups with appointments - I saw a diabetic gp today and have come away feeling more clues up. He has confirmed type 2, explained in detail how it happens and what I need to do. It’s mostly weight related m. Feeling happier

Hi Shellkl, would you mind telling us what he said?, we will all find that interesting. Many thanks.

I'm afraid that I took a wicked delight in returning my blood glucose and Hba1c to below diabetic without losing shedloads of weight.
Having always had a problem with the diet sheets handed out by doctors and which caused me much anguish over the years, to disprove all their expectations and requirements was a rather enjoyable situation.
What is normally not made clear is that diabetes is the inability to cope with carbohydrates. If you stop eating the amounts of starches and sugars considered normal today, your blood glucose should drop to normal quite quickly assuming that you are a lucky type two, and soon your Hba1c will do likewise. You might very well lose weight in the process or soon after, but it is a side effect, not the cause, from what I understand.

It may not be great for others lol.
He explained in detail what has resulted in the diabetes (which would useful to me). He compared my weight last year (prediabetic HbA1c of 45 weight 92kg) to now (HbA1c 53 weight 97kg). This confirmed weight was a big factor. He explained how different foods impact blood sugar and advised I watched a programme called the ‘truth about carbs’ and said this would be an eye opener.
He advised against medication for now and wants treat bloods in 3 months, review every 9 months.
He went through what could happen if I cannot lower my HbA1c.

Sounds like good advice, losing some excess weight and reducing carbs in the diet is usually a winning combination in managing early T2. Sometimes / at some stages adding in as lower dose of meds as possible and / or reducing carbs to V low levels (under 50g daily) is necessary

Couldn’t agree more: the weight is falling off me but I see that as secondary to blood glucose control- if weight loss is modest then I’m ok if BGL is in line.
