Type 1 Sudden Increased Appetite

Hi, I'm female, 45 and T1 for 15yrs with no other issues.

I've always been a naturally slim person, no issues with weight or food. My A1c hovers around 47. Normal bloods at last check up in August, no issues with thyroid. My BG readings can fluctuate but I've been experiencing nothing out of the ordinary.

But for the past couple of weeks I keep feeling hungrier than normal or not as full after eating.

I've felt really hungry all morning today after my breakfast, which isn't usual, I've not long had a really large lunch which would normally leave me feeling stuffed and not needing to eat for hours, but I don't feel as full as normal.

It feels a bit strange. Anybody experienced anything similar?

I would test when you are hungry after you eat and see if you are having a drop in your BG level when it happens. Just in case as there is something called reactive hypoglycemia that your blood sugar actually drops after you eat.
A type1 cannot have reactive hypoglycaemia - as T1's do not produce insulin (unless still in the honeymoon period which is highly unlikely after 15 years)

@Rokaab I removed it! You are right. Highly unlikely after 15 years.

But I would test when you are hungry ater you eat to see what your BG levels are doing. High or low levels can cause hunger.

Our reactions to high and low levels are individual. Mine seem to be different to those mentioned.
I feel hungry when my levels are high.
When my levels are low (and I have to eat), I have no interest in food.

So, definitely, agree to checking blood sugars when hungry. Either extreme may be related.

Are you craving sweet or carby foods perhaps? IS anything else going on e.g. sleep or other physiological stressors or have you taken up more exercise? All of these would increase the appetite as does a plummeting blood sugar. Personally when high I crave sugry stuff because my body isn't getting it though I'd also feel very ill at the same time but you haven't mentioned that.
I would eat in reaction to your body's signals in which case you will be satisfied by extra nuts, fish, meat, eggs etc. whereas if its an insulin dosing issue or the cravings are due to stress you might want to address those issues rather than eat to satisfy carb cravings which will possibly then add fat where you don't want it on your body (around the tummy) or cause an imbalance in your excellent bg control.

Thanks for the replies. I test frequently with a libre, nothing at all out of the ordinary.

Not craving anything in particular, no change in lifestyle. No stress.

The hunger lasted all day yesterday, but I'm OK today.

It's weird. Like a couple of weeks ago, I had my dinner and my stomach just felt like an empty pit afterwards.
