Sugar Levels And Testing

Hi , I am new to this and could really do with some advice.
For about 6 months I have been suffering with all the normal symptoms of type 2 , constantly tired , peeing more often (inc during the night) etc .
I went to my doctors who sent off a urine and blood sample for testing. She tested my sugar levels and was at 4 (hadn’t eaten for 14 hours).
She suggested monitoring my sugar levels at home whilst waiting for the test results, I have been doing this for last 2 weeks now , before meals and in morning between 6 & 8.5 , 2 hours after meals between 8.9 & 12.3 .
Based on the normal levels on this site it suggests either pre or diabetes, however I have just contacted my doctors for the test results and they have said both came back satisfactory and no action to be taken.
Am I worrying over nothing and should accept the results or should I push for more tests?
Any advice would be great
Pete

What you really need to do is find out what the actual results were - if you have online access to your records hopefully it will be in there, hopefully one of them will be the HBa1C - that is the one that you need if you can get hold of it. Or you can ask your doctors for the actual numeric result.

Below 42mmol/mol (6.0%) and you're normal
42-47mmol/mol (6.0 - 6.4%) you are pre-diabetes
And 48mmol/mol (6.5%) or over is classed as diabetes

Ask for the numbers. Have you told your GP your after meal numbers as well?
I can’t get an appointment for another two weeks to discuss any of my levels, as they are saying no action is to be taken, I have booked in , in 2 weeks because I’m not happy they have decided this without looking at my levels for the last 2 weeks

Have you asked for a printout of your lab results? I think you can get that without having to have a consultation with your doctor.

I have just got my blood results and my HBA1c is 34
I don’t understand how I can be feeling like this constantly and getting high blood sugar levels.
I don’t eat anything sugary, only have carbs once per day , any suggestions?

It's possible to have a normal HbA1c and yet have type 2 diabetes. Your 2 hours after meals reading of 12.3 suggest you have diabetes, as does your fasting result of 8.5. Perhaps your HbA1c is normal because you only have a blood glucose spike once a day.

Just out of interest, can you tell us everything you ate yesterday please.
Breakfast = coffee no sugar
Lunch = red apple
1/2 chz spread n cucumber sandwich
Sugar free cherry flv water
Dinner = 2 pork loins
Small jacket potato (no butter)
1/2 can baked beans
Sugar free cherry flv water

So should I be asking for more tests to be done

Today all I’ve had since 7am this morning is 2 cups coffee no sugar and my bloods have just read 8.5 !!

Well, for myself, I wouldn't eat an apple. Are you eating bread for the sandwich?

I wouldn't eat potato, you can eat as much butter as you want. And I wouldn't eat baked beans.

Are you taking milk in your coffee? The skinnier the milk the worse it is for diabetics. Use double cream if you don't take it black.

I’m lactose intolerant so don’t have the butter
My point is I’m not eating lots of carbs or sugars, getting high blood levels but being told I’m not diabetic. Any non diabetics eating what I’m eating would surely have a lot lower levels.

What is the best step for me to take now to get the doctors to look into my situation more , they are saying based on my blood tests they have no further action to take, but clearly it’s not as final as they are saying.
I have an appointment on 7th aug and am going to continue to test my sugar levels, is there anything else I can do beforehand?
I really appreciate all your comments and help, my doctors are useless and are no help at all ☹️

Yes. Download the mySugr app. Record your tests along with the food you eat. I test on waking, then before I eat and again 2 hours after the first bite. I also test before bed. After about a week, you will get an estimated HbA1c number. Remember that this reading is based entirely on the data you enter.

When you test for meals. You are looking for a rise of not more than 2.

Lots of non-diabetics have high readings in the morning, the liver is dumping glucose to get us started.

Lots of non-diabetics spike after eating and it is ok for them.

I certainly wouldn't say that you are eating low carb. The beans are around 12 carbs. The milk is 3 per 100 ml. The potato has carbs.

Using the app you can identify which foods are causing a spike. You can show your app to the doctor with the information. Bear in mind you will only have a few days data by the time of your appointment.

I am T2. I was diagnosed in November at 122. In 6 months I got it down to 35. mySugr estimates it is currently 36. I go for my next HbA1c at the end of the month.

If the number is still low, it doesn't mean I don't have Diabetes.
