My sugar spikes(123mg/dl) within 40 mins of eating salads and chicken soup with veggies. It also drops around 50mins post eating(117,111). By 1.5 hours, it is 96mg/dl
Is this normal?

Hi @saky and welcome to the forums. Here's a link to what happened when non diabetics wore a cgm for 10 days.
I'm sure some prediabetics and/or T2s will be along soon to give advice, but in the meantime the above study may give you some insights.

Yes, normal.
Your numbers are 6.8mmol/l after eating and drop back to 6.1-6.5 after 50 minutes to go back to 5.3 after 1,5 hours.
So all in the non diabetic zone.

For those of us using mmol/L

123 mg/dl = 6.8
117 mg/dl = 6.5
111 mg/dl = 6.2
96 mg/dl = 5.3

I think that looks pretty normal, though I'm quite new to this myself. The chicken soup probably had more carbs than you realise unless you made it yourself and you know what went into it (thickeners, etc.)

My understanding is that by two hours after eating, you BG is supposed to go back to base level, ie. near fasting levels (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.) I'm getting similar results after meals. Do you know what your starting/fasting level was? It's best to check right before the meal and two hours after -and if you get similar results, it means your body reacted well to the food you ate and brought you BG back to base level - not below, cause that means a sugar crash! Checking the levels in-between this two-hour period will show you the glucose curve, so you can see how high you were spiked, so that could be valuable info as well.

Where did you buy/get your CGM? I'm thinking of getting one too to experiment for a couple of weeks, but I've seen some reviews where people said that they stopped working after just a few days and I can't afford to waste that sort of money. Until then, I just keep pricking my fingers! Was it easy to implant?

I made the soup myself at home.
Pre meal value was 90mg/dl after drinking black coffee with almond milk which doesnt spike my sugar

Am from india. First i tried cgm libre.pro in a diabetes clinic in 2019. They attached the sensor and the reader was with them and i went there to scan once in 3 days with my food diary. Later, I bought the reader and sensors online.
I struggled a bit initially because I didnt know how to use It correctly. Now i have learnt how it works.

Well, looks like you returned to your pre-meal level well within two hours and all those readings are good, so I think you're on the right track!

I can see those CGMs can be very useful - I just wish they weren't so expensive. For most of us they would be unaffordable on a regular basis, but I'll get one I can use with my phone just to try and see what sets my levels off. I've already downloaded the app. Sad how our healthcare system here in the UK puts all the funding into treatment rather than prevention!

Yes you can try once and then see for yourself
Even. I use cgm freestyle libre(cheapest in the market) only once in 4 months or so.

Yes, it's a good approach to use it periodically - kind of like a health check for those of us who are not actually diabetic. Prevention is key!
