Hi all

As Im sure most know that lucozade are cutting the sugar in their drinks by 50% I always use lucozade to bring me out of a hypo. Do you guys have any advice what else we can use now? I wonder are they reducing the sugar in their glucotabs?

I have used a 500ml bottle of isotonic juice for years.....

half of that bottle gives me the 15-20g required.....

any sugary liquid with the right amount of carbs will do the job...

I usually have a couple of Glucojuice bottles lying around as they're quite portable and have almost exactly 15g quick acting carbs in.

Had a look at their website the other day and it looks like the Lucozade Energy Original is getting halved, down to about the same as Lucozade Energy Pink Lemonade, which seems to be staying the same as it was, presumably because it's already under whatever the tax cut off point is. I tend to use the pink lemonade one anyway because it tastes better and it normally does the trick. But if you tend to use Original, looks like you'll need twice as much if you plan on carrying using it.

About all I ever drink is a small bottle of plain apple juice (130 cal) or part of one. It works as fast as glucotabs trust me. Another excellent option is a can of V8 juice (70 cal) which works just as fast and it's 2 servings of veggies to boot. I never bought glucotabs actually but I see them mentioned a lot around here. What I use is probably much less expensive too. And no sugar tax either.

Thank you everyone! Do any of you use cola? Im more uncertain of the speeds that the new drinks will correct the hypos.

My go-to hypo treatment is Clif's Bloks. They're 8g of carb a piece, taste good, last forever in the bottom of a bag, and don't dry my mouth out as much as glucose tabs etc. Just be aware that certain flavours contain caffeine.

hi,

A tin of regular coca cola will be just as good, a tin contain 9(!) cubes of sugar. Also orange juice is fine. I never use Lucozade as i dont like it.

I always use cola for mine and it often shows increase in sugar instantly but maybe trial and error a few different things as we are all different

Lucozade was dubbed 'Pukozade' by my family a few days after my diagnosis aged 11, after what happened when a lot of those bubbles went down the wrong way......
:meh:

I avoid it!

Glucotabs for me. Very convenient. And you can't spill them like Lucozade. I swear my parents' house must still have the odd drip of orange 'varnish' here and there even over 30 years on - once dry, it sets like shellac!

:)

Hi I have to say I'm not overally happy about it. Usually if I wake up low during the night I feel sick with it and to have to consume more liquid does not appeal. I've always been able to get good response to licozade when low and it doesn't worry me that I won't be getting what I need to bring it up quick enough. I know there's a lot of other things out there but half of them taste disgusting as well.

I go with glucotabs everytime. Good container that keeps tabs fresh. Exact dose even when hypo, 4g CHO per tab. Very quick action. Easy to carry. Buyy in bulk online so pretty inexpensive. Perfect

150ml 'mini cans' as I call them of regular coke or ginger beer, to stop others in the house stealing them, usually 4 for £1 in Asda is what I use unless I am out the house without a bag then it's blackcurrant dextros

I've been diabetic for 18 years now, since the age of 5, and I've always found fruit juice (orange or apple is best in my opinion) does the job brilliantly and in a fast enough manner :)
