so why should I have to pay more for something which is a LIFELINE for people such as me?
You won't have to but if you want it in the form of a sugary fizzy pop you may choose to do so otherwise choose one of the many alternatives.

I certainly feel that the sugar tax could be unfair to we T1 DB's since when I go hypo its a NECESSITY to have some concentrated sugar handy, be it Mars bars, Crunchie Bars or sweet drinks when available, so why should I have to pay more for something which is a LIFELINE for people such as me?

I'm no expert on economics.. But "inflation" kind of does that sort of thing by nature anyway..

I reversed my Type 2
Treatment type
I do not have diabetes
So here is question: should the sugar tax be extended to all products with added sugar. Chocolate bars etc, May be 0.1p per gram of added sugar. If they add sugar to low fat foods they get taxed. Doughnuts get taxed. Sweets get taxed.

I see it a little like a courier or haulage company i suppose.. With regards to the tax on fuel, In this case. Though I understand the "sugar tax" is a levy on the sweet maker companies & not direct to the consumer, like the companies that need to fill the tanks to provide a service..

It will put a squeeze on profit margins & thus eventually reflect in the price..?

Edit; a thought just occurred to me. What about smaller "indie" set ups like cake stall owners & wedding cake makers?

Question please ....

Is this tax separate from your VAT and is it (will it) disclosed on the receipt?

No the sugar tax as specified is a charge on the manufacturer and not to the end user

Thanks @Jaylee .... might have been a thought to include the company levied sugar tax on the docket but not include it in the total paid. Won't be long before we follow suit and then the debate begins. Assume there will be ways and means for the manufacturers to pass on that charge over time and disguise it with excuses on distribution, packaging, etc etc.

I believe that sugar in all its forms should be taxed to the hilt. I am Type 1 but I'm also a dentist. Daily I see the devastation caused to the teeth and gums and the misery it causes, all caused by sugar consumption. There is also an association between gum disease and an increased risk of heart disease and having a stroke as well as some other diseases. Apart from allowing myself a pudding at Christmas and on my birthday I eliminated virtually all sugar from my diet many years ago. I don't allow myself chocolate, sweets, cakes, biscuits or sugared drinks. I allow that I have to buy about 2 packets of dextrose tablets a year to deal with an occasional hypo but otherwise cutting out sugar is not that difficult. I wouldn't miss those 2 puddings and the guilt I feel when I have to take dextrose tablets is so profound that I know I will not be changing my dietary habits with respect to sugar

As we are all diabetics it shouldn't effect any of us but now the cat's out of the bag it won't be long until other food groups are added.

To add to the effects that dental disease can have generally on the body, if someone has chronic gum disease that can result in increased difficulties with blood glucose control. There is strong scientific evidence to support this
