Sugars dropping too low

I''m type 1, I go to bed at between 14-15 at about midnight. by 4-5am my blood has dropped to around 4(too low for me ) and I have to have sweets to keep right till I get up around 9.my bedtime snack is usually 2-3 weetabix,semi skimmed and sugar on top.very frustrating would I be better having jam and marge on toast TIA Leigh

We aren't allowed to advise on specific insulin dosing but if my levels were like yours I'd be wanting to change my insulin dosing. (I've been diabetic for 55 years so I'm fairly confident to do this but if you aren't then you really need to reach out to your clinic for advice.)

The whole idea of a basal bolus regime is that your basal (long acting) insulin carries you through the night on a fairly steady level...

What time do you have your evening meal and are you injecting for your bedtime snack?

I agree with @EllieM and i too am a seasoned pro of 50 years.
If you are having 2 to 3 weetabix with milk and sugar you are looking at around 50g of carbs before bed...... i could not achieve the results i do with such a huge intake of carbs before bedtime.

Do you have a CGM?
Carbs, exercise and insulin are the 3 key factors in successful control and if you tinker too much with one then the effect on the other two can be grim and a CGM is vital as it gives you all the data you need.

Analysing the data can be difficult but your health care team should be able to help.

You are going to need advice from your hospital diabetes team. They may want to adjust your basal and bolus insulin. That may involve writing down hourly readings during fasting.

We are all different, but my experience is that my last evening meal needing a bolus has to be about 3.5 - 4 hrs before bedtime. Then my night-time readings fluctuate very little.
