Hi all, my daughter has been put on the patient is interested list (not a waiting list I am told!). The DSN told me that we will have a choice between:
medtronic veo
Animas
Roche
We have just been the given the ACCU-Chek AVIVA EXPERT BG reader. Has anyone any advice about which would suit her? She goes swimming 3 times a week but is this enough to warrant the Animas? I suppose one that will allow her to be discreet would be good as she is just getting to that age where she doesn't want too much attention. Any help greatfully received.

Hi Blondie

It's difficult to say which would be be suite as little difference really in them, and all will need to be detached for swimming..

The main difference between the 3..

The Veo, is CGM compatible, You can get a CGM that connects and communicates with the pump and it's various wizards, could be handy if you can afford to self fund the CGM it's not cheap, and there's no NICE guidelines so funding in extremely difficult.

The Animas, Doesn't have CGM compatibility and I don't think it has a remote to it.

The Accu-chek Combo (The pump I use) doesn't have CGM compatibility, but does come with a handset that is the blood glucose meter and remote for the pump, This is very much like the 'Expert' meter you've got. But also includes bluetooth for communication with the pump, all the software on the pump is on the handset, also the bolus wizard include the different bolus deliveries of the pump. And of cause the reports includes pump information.

Apart from whether you prefer to have remote, or able to fund CGM there's not much difference, so when looking at choices

Have a look at navigation of the Menu's as they are all different... So it may be one is easier for you than another.
Screen Size and read out, could be the clincher (I think the Animas has a colour screen)

But check out www.input.me.uk as they have comparisons of the NHS available pumps, plus take a look a the manufacturers website, they all should have a small demo program of their pumps and Broucher's that you can download or request... And you can download the manuals as well, this will help give you an idea how to navigate the menu's.

I like my roche accuchek pump solely based on the remote control.

I personally think a pump with a remote control for an 8 year old id probably best for the parent and teachers etc.

However, I am a mature adult... But do talk to a friend with a 9 year old daughter with pump.

Just to correct you can get the Animas Vibe if you want the option of adding a self-funded CGM.

I have the Animas 2020 and it's fab. I have visual issues so it's the only one I could read clearly. I thought I'd want a remote but to be honest as I've never had one I didn't really think about it too much. An 8yr old might lose it too or silly friends use it without realising the dangers. Just a thought.

I'm not a big swimmer but my friend also on Animas is. The pump is excellent in water and just one less thing to worry about.

The pump comes in lots of really nice colours and the cannulas come in blue, pink or clear. If she loves pink she could have a pink pump and matching cannula.

Hope that helps :)

Guys, thanks a million for all your input, it is a minefield out there. I have a lovely DSN but information seems to be on the ask the right questions basis and I don't always know the right questions to ask as we are only just beginners (daughter diagnosed last wk in Aug). I am just trying to give her the best piece of equipment out there to suit her needs and make life a little easier. I can't even think about how hard this might be or I might have more sleepless nights!!! Many many thanks for your help and support.
