Supplies

Does anyone else have trouble persuading their doctor to issue prescriptions for reasonable quantities of supplies? Mine will happily give me repeats for 2 months of all my tablets and way more than that of Novorapid but only 20 days of insulin pen needles and 15 days of Levimir!! It's very frustrating having to go to the chemist every 2 weeks!!!!!!!

Perhaps your gp hasnt realised how often your needles should be changed (some think its ok to have a needle a week!!) or perhaps with insulin he hasnt calculated correctly how much you are using?

I've had times where my repeats seem to have odd numbers of things, 1 box of rapid acting at a time but three of basal, 2 boxes of lancets but only 1 of test strips. Never did come up with a resasons I'd need 4 lancets per test

Usually I think it's been when it's been different people prescribing. When I went in to the nurse for a blod taking I asked if she could rearange the number so I got the same amount of each and make life a bit easier so I can order them all at the same time.

I guess our surgery although not the best is more organised with scripts than this. I re-order online and my script is for at least one months supply of each item. For Levemir, strips and needles the quantity I can choose covers several months supply so I elect to miss some of the items on some months so I only have what I need but it means there is some sense in the process. I do pull my monthly online order forward each month by a day or so so that I can build up a stock if needed and a day or two goes unnoticed by the surgery!
