surely there not all myths about high fats

At the other end of the scale, I'm eating a relatively high protein, higher fat, low carb diet. I've lost nearly two stone in 10 weeks, my blood sugars are better than ever and it looks like I may be about to get my best Hba1c for a long time. I'll also find out about my blood lipids at that time.

What everyone needs to remember is that a GP is not an expert on diet and has a set of guidelines from their national health authority that leads them to a certain direction, backed with a set of evidence, some (often much) of which is outdated.

So while your doctor is surprised, it is unlikely that she has done the research into diet that many on the forum have in order to draw their conclusions.
I'm not saying she is wrong, but she may not have as much evidence to hand as many people think. GPs don't have in depth knowledge of everything!
I totally agree , the more I read these threads you can realize that problem.
On @zand 's video clip the doctors and experts advised us to discuss things etc; with our doctor/Dietitians. The first thing I thought was "we do not have doctor/Dietitians with that kind of knowledge at our clinics.

Before I new what LCHF was. that phrase was I thought High Fat was all about.
It was not meant to be offensive , just a honest answer to the question.
These days it is hard sometimes to ensure one uses the correct words that don't offend. sorry.
I am sure on this forum some of us thought the word Fat was offensive.

You are right unfortunately there do seem to be those who find the word 'fat' offensive. There also may be those who find the term 'low-fat' offensive too! I think it is this 40 years of indoctrination that 'low-fat is good' that has made people be offended by the term high fat. In turn this has led to even more derogatory comments about people who are 'fat'. No doubt I'm offending some people too by posting this. I hope not, that's not my intention.

In answer to your earlier post......No you haven't upset me at all. :)

I still haven't had time to look at those links properly izzzi, but I will. I like to look at all the different points of view before I make up my own mind. (I've been trying to wade through Phoenix's french link, but I think I might just give up on that now! lol)

To be honest Yours,Phoenix ,and And Breathe's are better for this thread. My links are more for members that will not use the LCHF diet properly when they make their choice.
:)

Yes.

And as for that 'excessive greed' comment...
Izzzi, really.
Don't you know that insulting people isn't a very good way of persuading them round to your (10 years behind) point of view?
Sorry @Brunneria Its the dog house for me.( hang on a minute, what about your books ( Diabetes For Dummies ) That reminds me where's !

The credit for discovering that video has to go to @jack412 to be fair.

When you have time it's worth picking up again.

@AndBreathe I've only had time to watch 10 minutes of the video so far. What I've watched was excellent. I learnt the hard way that it's carbs and not dietary fat that make you fat , so I agree with what I've watched so far. I will watch the rest later. Thanks.

@izzzi have a look at this link:-

@zand , Just read it. Thanks.

I am not a vegan, yet on a vegan type diet. Simple reason is most of the family are veggies etc; So when I was told I was type 2, I thought to give this vegan type of diet a go,which has turned out very well for my control. ( I have now got used to it, )
Hears is some of the recipes. Vegan Low-carb Recipes | Vegangela
Guess what, I also get spoiled, my lot can cook great odd looking meals.

@sanguine Got mild dyslexia. so haven't a clue:confused:. ( takes me 1/2 an hour to spell disliexa ) thank goodness for spellcheck.

Apologies, I didn't mean to be obtuse. Did you mean some people are offended by being referred to as fat, or by the idea of eating fat?

Sometimes, I think our "auto-offended" setting is set a little too sensitively. And I include myself in that judgement.

Yes and my son.....and he's the most intelligent of the 4 of us. He got his degree in French, so now he's dyslexic in 2 languages. :)
@zand,
That would be a great T-shirt slogan:cool:
" I've got a degree in French,
I'm dyslexic in 2 languages"
written in French & English!

Hi @izzzi This is just my personal opinion on the word 'fat'. I would describe myself as either very fat or seriously obese. They both mean the same thing to me and are factual descriptions of what I look like. I am not offended by either of those labels: they are both accurate, so I see no need to take offence.

To me the problem occurs when people have their own opinions as to why I am very fat. Words like 'greedy' and 'lazy' are often used by people who don't know me and haven't a clue what my lifestyle is like.

Another problem is that many people equate eating fat with being fat when it's the carbs that cause the weight gain. Dietary fat is a good thing and does not make us fat.

I really want to thank you, izzzi, for starting this thread because you and a few others from this forum have now motivated me to try again with my weight loss plan. Through reading the links and watching the videos that have been posted, here and on other threads, I have renewed enthusiasm for LCHF.

Thank you
