I have never had any issues with blood sugar levels until a test last week has shown that i am at pre diabetic levels. I have been on an intermittent fasting diet for the past two months. Could this be the cause of this sudden change?

Intermittent fasting is a way to get bloodsugars under control. So it's not likely to cause a rise... More likely it is what kept you from getting a "diabetic range" result. When you do eat, what are you eating? It's relatively easy to avoid T2 all together if you know how to eat... https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/ might help, it's my little quick-start-guide. There's heaps more info on Dietdoctor.com, diabetes.co.uk (NOT .org!!!), and Dr. Jason Fung's the Diabetes Code is an excellent read... Might be a good place to start.
Good luck!

If you alternated intermittent fasting with high carb meals then it's probably as bad as just eating too much carbs?
As JoKalsbeek said, diet is the answer for most of us type 2s and prediabetics, and lots of us have got into remission by going low carb, with or without IF.

Pre diabetes/T2 is a condition of carbohydrate intolerance.. if your intermittent fasting regime has led to eating more carbs during your meals then possibly... however it's not the fasting its the carbs.
Cut back on carbs and replace with fattier foods to make you feel fuller for longer and you'll get your blood sugars back to normal.

Hi,
You don't say why you are testing/having Blood Glucose tests.
I am assuming that this was just a 'finger prick' test, not a Hba1c test result from a blood sample sent to a lab.
Further, I have recently learned that some (Dr Peter Attia for example) don't use the term Intermittent Fasting (IF) for the same skipping Breakfast and lunching late-ish 16:8 thing that most in this Forum do.

So what I have to say is about IF as we use the term:
IF can increase the Dawn Phenomenon (DP) which is an early morning dump of Glucose into the bloodstream. This is the Liver's way of giving us enough energy to go out and hunt/gather our first meal of the day.

Many Type 2 diabetics get DP, and it is a good thing not something to be concerned about, because that higher level of Blood Glucose has been made available from the body's store of excess fat (in our cases). So that once we run down this store of excess fat back to more normal levels, the DP usually becomes less pronounced (or even non-existent).Thus the Fasting BG level (early morning level) gets lower and lower over time.

It is possible that your IF triggered a higher DP than normal (for you) - in which case it isn't a problem at all - in fact quite the reverse!
