Suspected kidney stones and taking meds

So had to go to out of hours this morning and they suspect kidney stones again.
They have sent me home with painkillers and I have to monitor sugars etc.

the dr did say I could kiss my weekly dose of trulicity this week if I wanted because it’s due tomorrow.

was in a whole load of excruciating pain at the time which fir the minute has eased off. (Drugs are at the ready by my side)

but I need to decide whether to take my usual trulicity tomorrow morning as normal or whether to take a week off due to what’s happening now.
 
No idea about trulicity but I wholly sympathise with the kidney stones.

I had them a good few years ago and remember rolling around on the floor with pain. Then had to watch my daughter go through them at 12. It was horrible.

I hope you get them sorted soon.
 
Have no idea of what would be best and wouldn’t advise anyway but did the doc explain WHY it might be beneficial to miss the dose as oppose take it? That would be a big factor in the decision if it were mine to make.

Woolygal - I'm reading your post as the Doc saying, if you don't want to take your meds this time around, that's fine, but be assured, that is my interpretation of what you have written.

We're I in your shoes, I'd be trying to keep as much as possible within my usual normal routine. You have posted often about feeling pretty "off" when your blood sugars are running high. They may (or may not) be running a bit higher at the moment, with your body fighting the stones, so my logic (were it for myself) would be it could be unhelpful to do anything that might facilitate the numbers going up, maybe more.

Kidney issues are not listed in the side effects for Trulicity. https://www.drugs.com/sfx/trulicity-side-effects.html

Looks like it's your choice, @woollygal . Nobody can tell you how to manage your own medication.

I was in so much pain I didn’t think to ask. Stupidly. She did say trulicity wasn’t related to the stones.

Thanks. Yea I know it’s my decision just wanted some input.
Trulicity isn’t related. Unfortunately LCHF is because it’s so high in protein. But as Dr said to me at the start kidney stones hurt but diabetes in the long run is more severe.
Pain in the bum. Just started to trust body more, was walking etc. Now lost all confidence in it again. Stupid idiotic thing.
Sugars are hood again. By mid afternoon was down to 6s by dinner was 5s.
Woken up in the 8s but all in all after yesterday I’m happy with that.

think I’ll be taking meds. Think part of issue is I’ve lost my nerve in having more pain due to injecting. Maybe I need to just get back on the horse!
 
One more thing. I e obviously had symptoms of the stones for few days but hadn’t really paid attention.

my pee has been smelling of popcorn again. Always used to what with being undiagnosed but since haven’t noticed it.
This week I gave in the mornings.

tiday even though I drank 2l of water yesterday this morning it still smelt of popcorn albeit not as strong.

ami right in thinking that means there is glucose in my urine? Do I need to be worried?

im assuming now I’m treated as diabetic I shouldn’t be losing glucose through my pee?

I couldn't even speculate why your urine smells like popcorn..

If you want to test your urine for glucose, you can buy some cheap dip stick, a bit like the Doc uses when doing a quick test at the surgery.

Unless of the Flozin class of meds, like you used to be, glucose only shows from about a blood glucose score of about 10, upwards, so that's not too likely. Did your GP do a dip test as part of his diagnosis?

Unless you are eating huge amounts of protein, I wouldn't be too keen to point the finger at that as the primary cause of a potential kidney stone (if it was me). Like so many things, some people are just a bit more prone to them than others.

Like so many of these things, good blood glucose control will usually help the management and recover your phases.

What are your treatment and recovery regimes like?

yesterday dr said I had glucose and blood in urine but no keytones.

what do you mean by recover and treatment regime?

this morning have urge to pee in waves. But no real pain. Some twinges but nothing that means I have to take painkillers.

assuming this means I’m still passing it or something is happening.

I wondered if you.had been given any treatment or guidance on how you should manage yourself over the next few days.

Oh sorry.

i have codeine ibuprofen and paracetamol. I can take all theee at the same time.
If my sugars hit 14/15 I have to go to a and e
if pain gets worse or unbearable to call them back or a and e
drink loads of water
if pain continues to see dr tomorrow.
Otherwise just see dr soon
 
Hi. I had kidney stones many years ago and went to A&E and was given morphine. Fortunately the stone passed within a few days but not the best experience. It sounds like you're being given sensible advice overall. BTW be aware that long-term use of Ibuprofen can for some cause kidney damage but normal use is fine.
